I need to do some large format printing, up to 24x36 max on an Epson 7600 inkjet printer. Can anyone tell me how the S2 holds up to this size enlargement? Would I be better off with a D100 or a 4000dpi negative scanner for this kind of work? ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! THANKS!

Hi,
I think it depends on how fussy you are.
You could download a sample from the camera from the web and print it at 24x36.. or print a section of the image on a smaller sheet to simulate the enlargement. It would also be an idea to upsample the image so you can't see the pixels.
My guess is a D100 would be slightly worse for this, and a 4000 dpi scanner may be better depending on the film used and how much you like to look at grain.
Scanned medium or large format film would do the trick, but at a price.
Finally, if your subject is static, you may be able to take multiple images and stitch them together with panorama software to make one massive image.
Hope this helps,
Andy.

You should go to NY EXPO shown last weekend...and you 'll
have your answer....I saw S2 hold up to 30x30... on Epson
7000...9000 series
If you have S2 why don't you a raw file then test print...
see what come out...also i saw they have software to
calibrate your monitor...your printer....unbeleivable...

THANKS! I wish I could go....but I am in Mexico right now. I already have the 7600 but I don't have the camera yet( I have an Olympus E-10). I was mostly worried about getting a big enough file size...of course my wife would tell me that size isn't everything. Anyway, I am encouraged enough that I ordered the S2 today and am hoping for the best. Also, I ordered a color profiling program from ColorVision (Spyder and OptiCal). They seem like a good and basic system for calibrating the screen and printer. I HOPE I AM DOING THE RIGHT THING!
