View Full Version : Anybody has a microdrive failure

This is a bit of a cross posting - sorry.

Today when downloading images to the pc direct from the S2 I had an IO error on the 12th image out of 79. Using a card reader gave the same results. This is a one month old 1GB Hitachi microdrive used only 3 times before, and it hasn't been banged or jarred (at least not by me).

Has anyone else had a microdrive fail? Should I just format it and carry on?

Thanks

Gary

My 512 MB MD failed about a month ago. I've been reluctant to buy another one since, it appears to me to have been just a mount/unmount problem on my Mac. I can see the card fine on a Win98 machine, but it will not mount on my Macs.

I spent some money unwisely by purchasing a Lexar card before reading the posts about them here in the forum. It doesn't work either. I only wish there were someone in SO. NJ that has a MD that I could test to see if I have a camera problem, before I spend money on another MD.

Heck, I'll need another one anyway, so here I go. I'm off to buy one now.

The S2 seems to have problems with the Hitachi Microdrives. I have 2 of the new Magicstor 2.2gb microdrives and they don't work right. tryed them in 2 different S2s.

I think I read in another post that the 2GB MD's are formatted FAT32. The S2 doesn't do FAT32.
