Let's see how this goes:

Please post here your favorite actions for PS 7.0 in EXACTLY step by step format. If you have a link to some actions by others or one you posted in the past, please post them too. Lets try to post as many different actions even if it gives the same result. After several weeks of posting, I will collect them all and put them into a MS Word document. Then post the Word doc for anyone to download and print out and have a copy for their records.

Thanks!

Here's an Action posted from Luigi from an earlier post

1. activate the actions palette
2. click on the small triangle on the right and choose "New action"
3. name it "resize" or what you like
4. assign it a function key selecting it from the menu (mine in PF3)
5. click on "record" button
6. now select Image/image size, opening the dialog box
7. make sure that "resample image" is marked, that "constrain proportions and "bicubic" are selected
8. change the unit to "percentage" for both the width and the height
9. change from 100 to 110 the value to one of the dimensions (the other will be automatically changed with constrain proportions on)
10. click "OK"
11. on the actions palette click on the square button to stop recording the action.

You now have a brand new action, every time you press the function key you selected you will increase by 10% the size of the image.

Thanks Luigi !

I make actions for several things and have buttons for them. They include, 300PPI, step back, step forward, auto color, save, 90 CCW, 90 CW, and a sharpening action I use. I also use several droplets. Just the rotate action saves many minuts a day when working on images. I have and use about 5 actions I bought from Fred Mirandas web site that work very good. I love Photoshop and learning new ways to save time and making our photos better. Looking forward to posts in this thread. More later.

Action: contrasta (USM)
This action is described in the tutorial "My USM process" in this forum

1. Select green channel in the channels palette
2. Duplicate the green channel (drag it into the new channel icon at the bottom of the channel palette)
3. Select Filter/Stylize/Find edges
4. Select "insert menu" in the actions palette menu that opens when you click on the traingle on the right, a popup window appears saying that none has been selected
5. Select image/adjust/levels: the popup window of step 4 now changes
6. click ok in the popup window
7. Repeat step 4
8. Select Filter/Blur/Gaussian blur
9. click ok in the popup window
10. In the channels palette click on RGB composite to activate it
11. repeat step 4
12. Insert Select/Load selection dialog box
13. click ok in the popup window
13. Display/Show/Hide selection
14. Repeat step 4
15. Insert Filter/Sharpen/Unsharp mask dialog box
16. Click ok in the popup window
17. repeat step 4
18. Insert Modify/Fade dialog box
19. Click ok in the popup window
20. stop recording

With the procedure described in step 4 it's possible to include in every action almost any menu, letting you choose the settings during the runtime of the action.

When you run this action you will be asked to:
1. adjust levels in the image resulting from the stylize filter, ensuring that the lines are strengthened and noise reduced
2. set the gaussian blur level (i usually choose 2,6-2,8 values)
3. Mark "invert" and confirm to load a selection from the green copy channel
4. choose the USM settings to be applied
5. Choose the blend mode for the fade: here select Luminosity at 100% opacity

Just posted a couple of my Adobe RAW plugin processing actions in another topic in this part of forum.

They work as follows:

1. Open RAW (RAF from Fuji/NEF from Nikon) file in directory
2. Process through the RAW plugin
3. Adjust levels - AutoLevels
4. Save file as JPEG (one action saves as a 2MB file, other saves as a fullsized JPG max quality) in another directory other than where RAF/NEF was found
5. Close RAF/NEF file.
6. Repeat process untill al files in directory all are processed..........

Oh. forgot the interim step 1a - Get a nice long drink alocoholic or otherwise while you wait for the JPEGs !!!

Thanks guys! That's what I'm looking for here. Step by step explanation of actions, so anyone could set them up in PS 7. Hopefully we'll get more and more post so the final product, saved in MS Word, is worth the download.

Thanks!
Rick

I suppose I could read the manual, but since I am already here, does anyone know if these actions can be setup in PS Elements?

Thanks,

Justin

I am having problems insering images.

Take a look here:

http://www.timojulku.com/tutorial/border.html

Just figured out some customized borders and how to automate them with a droplet or an action...

Here's the the action, that Timo's link is about. Nice find and Thanks Timo!

(The following is from the above link.)

HERE IS THE ACTION.
NOTE THAT I USE MANY OF THE SETTING I HAVE CHOSEN BELOW SO THAT IT WILL WORK ON BOTH VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL IMAGES AT ONCE... ITS A LITTLE BIT OF A TRIAL AND ERROR TO CREATE A GOOD DROPLET OR ACTION THAT IS UNIVERSAL, BUT IT CAN BE DONE... (I THINK)
