I bought a sata drive a year or so ago and installed it in my computer. I had trouble getting it to recognize it, could see it in the device manager but it wouldn't show up in my computer so I could use it. I was able to jump through some hoops and format it. It was fine for about a month and then I'd get a notice that the write failed to the drive. It was irritating.

I removed the drive, bought a Thermaltake, hot swappable sata drive holder and all has been well.

Jump forward to this past week when I bought another sata drive to use in the Thermaltake. Again, it doesn't show up in my computer but I can see it in the device manager but there's no option to format it..I think because it sees it as a usb device.

Anyone have any advice? Oh, it's a 1.5 T size drive on Win XP.

Sorry. Beats me. I have several Sata drives hooked to 3rd party Sata PCI cards. Everything has worked fine.

sorry can't help you on this one, not too good with PC stuff. Might be how it is formatted to start with. Can you put it in the computer and try form there. Are there any jumpers on the drive to tell it to be a master or slave drive?

Yes, I could put it in my box and see if I could jump start it that way but would rather search for another work around first. :baldy:

Will let you know what transpires!

Got it taken care of. I had to go into computer management/disk management, initialize the drive and now am formatting it. It's been almost 24 hrs for the 1.5 terrabite drive.
