I have had a very strange problem? It could be the S2 or it could be the Metz 54mz3 flash? this has happened 6 times in the last 5 weddings. I will take a photo and then the camera locks up I get an error message "Err" I checked every setting and the camera will not shoot. turns out the flash has the "Red" proper exposure light on and it stays lit. the only way the camera will work again is if I turn off the flash and turn it on again and then all is fine. I think it must be a Metz flash thing since even if I turn off and replace the batteries in the S2 the camera still shows the Err message. But could it be something in the camera what do you think? has anyone had a similar experience?

Jimmy;
Have had the Metz 60CT for years and use it with my S2 - no problems so far. One thing that you might want to consider is a "safe synch" Wein makes one and I use it when I hook up the S2 to my black line Speedotrons in the studio. This safe synch goes between the synch cord and the flash and does not allow the voltage from the flash (which is greater than what the camera needs in one burst) to affect the camera. The one I use cost around $30 and is great piece of mind knowing my strobes won't fry the camera.

I think Jimmy is shooting TTL with one of the modules, but I could be wrong. The safe sync just provides PC connector level signal doesn't it?

Yes I use the corrct Metz module. I contacted Fuji and they told me to send the camera in for replacement or repair. When I explained the problem they said it sounds like the camera is malfunctioning. maybe with the repaired or new camera It might have a TTL the actually works?

[Jim,
I used my Metz 60 CT1 on the S1 pointed at the ceiling just to lighten the entire room and combined it with a speedlight SB 25 for the main subject. Never had a problem though. When i got my S2 there was a warning included about possible damage because of too high voltage. Can you give me some extra information about this "safe synch" device you are using, because this is kind of new for me: I did not know it existed i mean
Thanks
Eddie

I am testing a Metz45-CL4 in TTL on my S2 using the SCA3402 Nikon Adapter and SCA-3000 cable. The preliminary result was really excellent at ISO100, but it appears that it may be overexposing at ISO 400 with near subjects and is not responding as well as I'd like to flash exposure adjustment.. I will be playing with this more and try something of a more controlled testing.
If I am reading the manual correctly this particular flash combination does not support 3d metering, just matrix TTL and standard TTL.
I haven't had the Err message yet.

Matt

I will update as I have more information
