Has anybody used this lens with S2?
I'd like to see the photo taken with a DEFOCUS CONTROL.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am hoping to get my new nikon 105 DC lens this week. I will let you know my thoughts when I get a chance to test it out.

Thanks Bob,
I'm looking forward to the test, please let me know when you have it posted.
Also I'd like to see the comparison between 105 and 85/1.4.
Is it possible?
Thanks.

The lens is very sharp but the defocus is pretty slight. I have a 80-200 2.8 set at about 105 and shot both at f4. My background was 3.5' behind and there is VERY little difference in terms of background blur. You can see a difference at 100% but you gotta want to see it.
I think this lens would work much better for outdoor shooting where the background can be much further from the focus point. I bought it to shoot a model against a backdrop and though I will give it a good test, I don't see using it very much for this.
I have attached a screen shot comparin the two lenses. The top photo is the 80-200 lens. The bottom is the 105DC set at f4 and maximum defocus control.

Really not much difference...
The sharpness is good.
Thanks for posting this comparison!

Thats prolly a bad choice of pic to show. I think the pleasing effects of DC are more obvious on a portrait of someone.
The 105mm f2 dc prolly is an awesome lens but its more expensive than a 85mm f1.8 which is one of the best nikon lenses also.
...and of course nikons 80-200mm zooms are arguably the best zoom lens they make and have very good bokeh.

How is the 105dc at f2.0???
Also, you might want to compare background blur with a closer background, especially one that is not too blurry with the 80-200.

I shot with the 105 DC all weekend and decided to send it back to B&H. I went ahead and bought a 85mm 1.4 instead. That lens is much better for my needs because of the size of my studio. I was going to have to shoot from outside a window to be able to use the 105 which I would have done if the DC was more noticeable. Photoshop is a better choice for increasing bokeh.
