Hello to you all,

I am a new user of this site. I am still waiting delivery of my S2, but have already recieved the lens I intend to use with it most of the time. Are there any other S2 users out there using a Sigma 24-70 EX lens? If so hows the quality, sharpness, contrast and so on with this body lens combination?

Hello X-Sync

I tested the Sigma 24-70 EX lens and the new Sigma 28-300mm against the Nikkor 80-200mm ED and im sorry the Sigma hat no change in sharpness, contrast . There is a visible difference and in price but the Combination with this Sigmas and the super S2 Pro is not better then an a cheaper consumer Camera.

I`m sorry about my english because i`m from Germany

Have a nice day Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the information:

I ordered a sigma 24-70 mm, but i will only buy it after i tested it.
I will be very critical now before deciding.

Hi to Ralph and Eddie,

I am still waiting for my S2 to arrive. I have seen conflicting reports on this lens, but I will test it when my new camera arrives. I would be intrested to hear your coments Eddie once you have had a chance to try out this body lens combination. Thanks for your imput Ralph, I prefer the opinion of a photographer like yourself, to that of magazine reviews.

Happy Shooting

I am planning to test the Sigma 24-70 EX and the Sigma 15-30 EX somewhere middle of this week and i will tell you the results later on this forum, promissed ! I have read a lot of reviews from both professionals and consumers and they all seem to be happy with overall sharpness and contrast as well as with minimal sferical aberration.. for a very interesting price. On the other hand some lesser lenses sometimes seem to leave the sigma plant, so sometimes you have to be lucky.... akward... not where it comes to optical performance but concerning mechanical imperfections...
Just wait and see i would say...
Catch you later

i do have the 24-70mm which is now 36-105mm and i like it. it was kinda short for film body (F-80) but just enough for a digital body with the 1.5 multiplier.

for the price, its very good :)

of course, if i could afford the 28-70 AF-S, why not? :D but right now, its a good combo with the 17-35 sigma (same filter size).

I'm a wide angle freak, so I just bought the Sigma 15-30mm. This lens has had some good reviews, so I feel fairly confident in it. I have made a few shots with it, but nothing serious, yet.

This week I plan to head out onto the streets of Bangkok and do some real shooting. Hope I get some good sunny days. Then I will be able to do my own evaluation.

I have read it's a little soft on the edges, of a 35mm frame, but quite good at the smaller S2 frame size. Once I have had a chance to shoot and evaluate, I will post some results.

I also use the Nikon 24-120mm zoom, which I like a lot. But it's not wide enough on the S2.

I bought both Sigma's 24-70 and 15-30 and have been using and testing them on various subjects and under different light conditions. One thing is clear: there is no such quality as the original Nikon stuff, but.... at the end of the day it is only a mather of prices compared to the quality you are getting.
Both Sigma's are more than good enough, sharp and good contrast, but a bit magenta enhancing on the S2' sensor.
The 24-70 starts performing better from f4 on with best image quality from f5.6 till f8. The 15-30 is compact and feels nice and balanced on the S2, performing good at all apartures.
I never had problems when free hand shooting with nikkor lenses on any camera at low shutter-speeds before, but testing these Sigma's i noticed that i better use a tripod or at least a monopod in the future for the combination seems to be hard to hold steady. You do not feel it when you take the shot, but checking the results on the computer afterwards and thinking the lenses may not be sharp enough i simply had to admit that i myself was the one to blame. Maybe we are just getting older....
Anyway: Good lenses when you learn how to use them...
