Am still using an old CRT but I think the time has come to look for a replacment. I need something say a min of 17" and be able to calibrate with a Spyder.

Any advice or idea's would be appreciated.

Hi Steve

I use the Eizo CG241W, it is awesome. It is hardware calibrated and needs a eye one spyder.

I love it

If you are a fan/user of Apple computers & equipment, Apple's full line of displays are due to be updated, and the rumor is that it will happen in mid-January. I have my eyes on a 30".... and if they update the MacPro line, I will be gettin' one of those monsters too.

My fleet of LaCie 19" & 22" CRT monitors are dying off. At one time I think I had 6 of them - they only last a few years of heavy use (they grow dimmer with use). I bought used ones off ebay which held for a few years. I have just one LaCie left. R.I.P. CRTs!

The main monitor on my main computer is an Apple 23" LCD, which I've had for a few years. I calibrate it with a Monaco Optix gizmo, and it all works well.

I know there are other monitors that are more accurate - and more expensive! - but mine works good for me.

Thanks guys,

I still have a LaCie (MK4 I believe) which I too bought off ebay but I've never managed to calibrate it correctly, it looks too yellow to me!

NRA, the Eizo's are nice but look pricey..

Cheers

I wish there was more input on this as I will probably be needing another one soon. Like Tom, I have been using Lacie's too and I have the last 17" IV Lacie had in stock. Guess you can tell it's due...

Been hoping the LCD's would come down in price...HEY, just remembered that there is a price squabble over these! Can't recall, but something about gouging and maybe, just maybe they will be coming down in prices soon. Need to research and Google more on this...

Like Nigel, I went with the Eizo CG241W and REALLY like it. I am using a Lacie 22 blue IV on one of my machines and it still calibrates fine and works as well as it ever did. I'm sure it will be going bad before long.

I have seen some monitor comparisons around on the net with pretty good reviews and prices but I'll have to do some digging to recall where they are.

A good review is done by Will Crockett on shootsmarter.com though the results are higher priced units, as would be expected. They recommend www.colormall.com as a source.

Two units I've seen mentioned more than others are: Samsung 226BW and ASUS VW222U. A Dell 2408 has been mentioned as well but may be out of production/no longer available.

Lots of browsing forums and opinion pieces should give you a good idea. I just know that the Eizo works for me. I hated to spend that much money but what can you do?
