I almost bought a 1DS MKIII tonight. I came as close as you can without hitting the submit button on B&H's site. Whew. But it's calling my name. Loudly. My wife even heard it and asked me what it was. When I told her she said to go for it.:surrender:surrender I have a rather special shoot next week and I may get it after that or I may just get it from B&H and have it shipped to the shooting location.

It does not look like I'll be able to afford the new 65MP back any time in the near future so I might as well just do it. Then again the 5D is great!

I guess the hardest things to separate sometimes are 'needs' and 'wants'. While I truly 'want' the 1DS MKIII I don't really 'need' it, although Swampy says the difference in IQ even between the MKIII and the 5D is significant. Does that mean you would be able to tell the difference in IQ when both are side by side in book form? I don't know. If so I'll wait until this project is finished.

Thanks for letting me ramble and don't let me log onto B&H anytime soon.:tongue2:

I almost bought a 1DS MKIII tonight. You could save some $$ by buying my S2

I know you probably kept yours anyway, but just trying to appease your "buying frenzy"...

Now go outside take your boots off and go wading in one of your cool creeks and kick a few rocks until these foolish ideas abate! :woot:

BUY IT, Bro! BUY IT!
You know you'll buy it anyway, I'm in the same position...first I hover over the CONFIRM BID button, then eventually I click it, it's beyond me to hold it :D

If you want it, and the price isn't a concern buy it.

I got the 1dsmIII in March it's a nice camera.

Interesting to note though on another pro list some switching back to Nikon after using the D3, the retailers do like to play with us!

I still have my original S2's and Nikon glass and will probably keep them just in case.

A cool creek would feel good about now with temps in the high 90's and a few 100's tossed in for good measure.

Hey Bro! I know I'll end up getting it very soon. Yeah, I hover over that button for a long time and sometimes several times before I CLICK! After all it did take me two years to decide on the 5D.:woot::woot: Not this time, though. Decision has been made it's just a matter of time.

I'm still wondering if the difference in IQ is significant enough to show up to an 'average' viewer of photos in a book or not. I'm so far out in the sticks that I have no one to go to for comparisons.

I've also been reading a lot where some shooters are switching to Nikon because of the D3.

I'm settled in with Canon right now after having recently acquired the 70-200mm L 2.8 IS, Canon 2x teleconverter, 16-35mm L II 2.8, 24-105mm L and 2 5D's.

I kept my 2 S2's, 17-35mm 2.8 Nikkor, 50mm 1.4 Nikkor, 180mm 2.8 Nikkor, a couple Sigma lens, a Tamron lens and Metz flash for Nikon just in case. The S2's have lost almost all of their resale value but the Nikkor lens are still holding.

Who knows, I may be shooting with 1DS MKIII next week after all.:help:

When I do pull the trigger on this purchase I'll put the newest 5D and all my Nikkor glass up for sale on the forum.

Just my personal opinion, from what I've read, for the book purposes nope not worth the difference.

The 1dsmIII is a huge difference for large prints.

One comment I read was a pro uses a camera with dual card slots.

I only got the camera to make prints 30x40 even easier otherwise I wouldn't have.

That's pretty much what I've been finding online but not from anyone I know. Thanks for the input Mel.

Hello together,

i have the same problem!
Bevore half an year i swaped from Fuji S3 and S5 to Canon 5D.
It was a good deal, have all selled my Nikon/fuji equiment at Ebay.
The difference between these Cams are amazing.

On Monday i have to shoot an Oversized Streetpicture for the RedCross Germany, itīs a large Poster thatīs are about 3x2 meter.
My Brain tells me i must have an 1ds Mk3, but i donīt know if i realy needed and if itīs not makeable with my 5D.
So i want to know if is the Quality so much better?

I want to use my 17-40 1:4L for that Job in an Hospital Operationroom.

Can someone tell me if it makes sence or not, or can i pump up my pic in CS3.

Thank you Guido
