Hi,

Bear with me fellow travellers while I take you on a bit of last week's travelog. I really wasn't anticipating shooting waterfalls, but we (mrs LW and I) stumbled onto the Waterfall tour and just ran with it. If you were really crazy you could drive to 7 falls in one day. Actually 8 if you took in Niagara, which is on the end of the Niagara Escarpment. This escarpment is a huge long spine that goes up to Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and this is where you find these falls. We took in one on Sat and 5 on Sunday. I wasn't equipped ala Sleeping Bear for the falls, so I just did what I could.

Settle in, here we go, first stop Eugenia Falls near Flesherton. This one is running very slowly at the moment, I have seen it much faster in the fall.

Next morning, after a lovely evening in Meaford, we did the half mile hike to Indian Falls near Owen Sound. This has a striking cut back. Although there is a route to the bottom and behind, I hadn't dressed or packed for that kind of trip.

Also in Owen Sound is Jones Falls (the second one I know of in Ontario). It is a leisurely walk but a difficult approach to the falls, which are surrounded by trees and rock.

Still in Owen Sound, we went to Inglis falls, the site of an old Mill, long since gone. Easy as pie to get to, the parking lot is at the top of the falls. I would like to revisit this in the morning light.

We then turned towards the town of Durham and McGowan Falls. This is barely a waterfall, it's really a small dam (one shot is of the reservoir) with some rapids. But it is on the tour and is called a falls so here it goes. The trip there was in sunshine, we got there and it started to get windy, then rain, then hail then sun again. Later we learned that the area had been hit by a tornado. Glad we missed that.

Ok, we were wet and tired but we decided we had one more in us. So we returned almost to the beginning of our tour in Flesherton, to the other falls in the area, Hoggs Falls. After a shower and before another one, we ran the short distance to the falls had a quick look and left.

While I wish I had packed better, (tripod, ND filters) and had more time. I am glad I did go, because when the leaves turn I will visit these again and be ready for it.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Tip your driver!

Thanks Dave,

I'm sure that you are as passionate about your Alaskan scenery as I am about central Ontario. I truly enjoy nature, pictures of nature and shooting nature. I just wish there was more time (and ready cash) to go more places.

Best,
Adrian

I got bored with being in the city last weekend and went north to Owen Sound and Tobermory, I went to two falls from my trip last year. But I took the time to venture to the base of the falls and see what I could find.

First ... Inglis Falls

That's a lot of waterfalls! Very nice and thanks for posting. Not to take anything away from the waterfall shots, but I really like the shots with the tree roots dominating the bottom of a couple of shots. It might be that it's interesting that the static roots have so much visual chaos, and the wild noisy moving waterfalls look so orderly.

Thanks Tom and Melody (hmm 10% - I thought I was a better guide...).

I like the trunk and roots too, it kinda of screams for black and white. I guess I have to put my Ansel glasses on and get to work.

Nice to hear from ya.
