Why you gotta post in my lens test forum and make it messy?! This is what I think of the post. I moved it. :P

Lemme see. I only have 4 filters, 3 for my 60mm and one for my 70-200VR. Cost? Don't know. they were all free.

Ritz threw in the UV for my 70-200VR from Quantaray which I believe runs around 70 bucks. I was given a Skylight 1b and another (square pattern etched in it, not diamond pattern) from Hoya and my circular polarizer was also thrown in from Ritz.

Hi there

I use filters from:

Nikon - expensive, but the best
B+W - expensive and excellent
HOYA HMC - lower cost alternative but good quality

I have seen people spend a lot of $$$ for good lenses only to put a really cheap filter in front of it. Don't do it! IMHO, spend the necessary $ to buy good quality MULTICOATED (to minimize flare) filters made from high quality glass.

B&H is a great place to buy stuff. Also, I have had excellent results with this eBay retailer:

Hope this helps. Take care!

I only use
Nikon filters on my Nikon lenses. I see no point in putting cheap glass over good glass.
I did once own a Hoya UV it did ok.
I also remember owning a Sunpak for use with my tamron lens.
Bleh!

Thanks for the info folks. I really appreciate the link and and your recommendation on using Nikon ONLY. That's the way I'll be going!

Thanks!

I'm using mostly HOYA UV's and polarizers and they're pretty good IMO.

Igor, I went with the same brand. I got the following:
HOYA CIR-Polarizing and the HOYA UV. Both are 77mm for my 70-200 VR glass. I'll be using these both today at the wedding. I'll post some pics here later.

Thanks again for the recommendations.

I only use one filter now that I am using digital. I shoot commercial (furniture, lifestyle, room settings, biking) as well as b&w fine art. When I used to shoot chromes, filters were a way of life.

The only filter I use now is for b&w infrared and is a 77mm 88A (opaque) Harrison & Harrison filter. Fits my 12-24, 24-85 (w/stepup ring), 80-200. If you need special filters I cannot recommend them highly enough. They aren't the quickest as each lens is custom made, but their prices make the b&w filters look ridiculously overpriced.
