Ok guys,

I put together a Lens Review section. It should be fully working with your normal forum username and password.

I spent a good amount of time setting this up, grabbing images and information and I expect you all to participate by going there and reviewing lenses that you've used.

I'm currently allow you to add new lenses yourself, but please stick to the format on the rest of the lenses. I may disable this if it gets to complicated and have people PM me or a moderator to add lenses that aren't currently there.

For now, you can get to it at this address: http://theswampbbs.com/reviews

BJ is going to add a link to the top nav bar to get to there soon.

I plan on adding cameras and other stuff in there as well, but "small steps" first as the lenses were A LOT of work.

Please go and put a review in on your lenses and if you're the first to review a lens, please search for a thread here that contains sample images from that lens and/or post your own samples.

Remember, if you add samples of a lens here, please make sure that there isn't already a thread for that lens here and if there isn't, please use the proper format in the title such as "Sigma 14mm f2.8 EX HSM" or whatever your lens may be with nothing else added. Keeps things clean and nice looking as well as easier to search.

If you have any problems or questions, please post them here.

Thanks,

Bryan

How would this differ from the present ''lens test'' forum Bryan ?

I believe it's an easier way for someone to find a lens or look for alternative lenses. Better controlled data, rating systems, actual information on lenses.

The lens test area has been nice, but it only contains sample images and gets a little messy. We'll still keep that messy area, but use it to compile sample images to go with the reviews, which unfortunately, you can't attach images to your review with that system and there's really not a system out there right now that will do it all.

It won't let me in. It makes me sign in again and then when it redirects the page I have to sign in all over again then redirect then sign in then redirect then sign in....you get the idea.

What website are you trying to get through?

I know even I was having some issues if I used different website names. If you connect through s2pro.com, then replace theswampbbs.com with s2pro.com and see if that works. Or just use theswampbbs.com on the forum (log in) and then go to the reviews and probably have to log in one more time.

I'd like to get this figured out since I want this available to registered users only... :|

I go through theswampbbs.com. I just tried again and it let me in, go figure.

Great job on the review section! Thanks! Dinner is on me when you guys head out this way. Chinese, Italian or USA (BIG steaks)?

This must have been a lot of work!

Is there any way we can allow editing of our posts? A browser problem means I have 2 identical reviews :(

Also can anyone explain the graphs for a dimbo :) (are these MTF graphs>)

MTF is a pretty technical thing Gary, but basically shows how well a lens will resolve RGB. The better it resolves those colors, the better the colors and contrast a lens can produce more or less.

Here's a slightly messy website that explains it in detail:

Bryan, I'm having the same problem as Ron had and I'm using Firefox  2.0.0.12. Tried IE :tupon: 6.0 and it works fine.

Same thing for me. Redirect, sign in again, click on lens, makes me sign in again, then redirects me back to the opening forum page. Can see the pictures of the lenses but will not allow me to read. Using firefox.

So what browser are you using?

So what browser are you using?

For now, IE7. I've been having issues with Java and AV web applications with Firefox and firefox chewing up a lot of resources not to mention too many updated requiring a restart of Firefox every time. On my laptop, Firefox would occasionally cause the laptop to take up to 5-7 minutes to come out of suspend mode on top of the other issues above. I'm just fed up with it.

IE7 isn't much better, but my laptop is fine and I'm not having as many issues with Java and stuff.

If I try to open the "Main" category, I get You do not have permission to view this category.

Safari browser- fwiw, the main category goes to www.theswampbbs.com rather than just theswampbbs.com, neither of which match s2pro.com or fmount.com ;) Maybe it's time for some URL rewriting?

I know, I know... I should just leave all the code alone and just have fmount and s2pro auto redirect to theswampbbs....

Still working on things believe it or not, but BJ has been slammed with work so I've been limited on what I can actually do.

Wow!

Just checked out the new lens section. It looks great. Nice job, it must have been a lot of work. (must be why you get the big bucks from this website!)

Thanks for the great effort and the wonderful resource.

Hi Byran,

Any chance of another manufacturer section - thinking specifically of Voigtlander, but since there is a low lens count, maybe just a 'Other Makes' section, in case there are even stranger people shooting with Zeiss lens' for example :)

Cheers,

Keith.

There you go Keith (and others). You can upload lenses yourselves. Since I don't have any idea what's out there and don't have a lot of time to put into it, just go into the review section, click on "Upload Products" and add them yourselves.

Please try and look up some specs and some images of the lens to attach to the new product though. You can link back to the post in the lens test forums for the discussion.

Take a look at what info was included on some of the other lenses under Nikon or Canon or something to get an idea on what to include.

Tom, can you go to http://theswampbbs.com/forums, make sure you're logged in there, then click on the reviews link and make sure you're logged in there? If you don't use the "remember me" and you still can't get in, can you try it again with the remember me checked?

I think there's a bunch of stuff going haywire with the review section because of the different domain names. I need to have BJ just set up all the domains to forward to theswampbbs.com.

Let me know what happens. I gotta go to the airport and won't be back until late so.....
