Attempt at Portraits.

I just got my new Canon 30D so I decided to take a Portrait class through our community education program, so I could learn how to use it. We took turns on both sides of the camera with partners. I lucked out and had a great partner so we were able to try a lot of different things in a short period of time. Here are a couple of attempts.

Good Start. The first looks a little fuzzy and I prefer the second one but I would have cropped out the legs and hands, I find them a bit distracting.

I like the lighting and the expressions look 100% natural. The subject looks very comfortable and genuine. The eye contact and short depth of field give a very intimate feel. I like the first one best.
