Daft question maybe but I'm kind of thinging about getting another PC and was thinling about a small compact Lap top this time. The only thing that worries me is the screens on lap tops. I still use a CRT and quite like it.

I'd be lost without a laptop, before when I'd travel to horse shows it was necessary, however even now I take things back and forth from the studio and the office. Used to use an Alienware....now it's a MacBook Pro the screen on the mac is MUCH better :) I really can't complain about the color on it at all.

When I'm in my "office" I simply hook the laptop to a big screen.

Oh so one can still connect a lap top to an old CRT then! I didn't know that was possible!
Thank you

I use laptops since 1998 IIRC.
The best screen belongs to Toshiba, which I'm using for five years.
Gor for it, Steve! :)

No doubt, laptops are great – very versatile and can save many a day when you need instant access to your files. But one note of caution – don't use one as your main computer, it's not what they're designed for.

I use a number of laptops for different reasons. I'd never use one for my main machine though as I get tired of the sluggishness. So I use it for long trips only.
Don't listen to Jacqui though. Laptops are sturdy these days and can take a punishment. There are millions of business people who use them as their sole machines.
Many laptops have USB and VGA out so you can hook a keyboard/mouse and monitor up to it without issues. There are a lot of laptops that have a docking station, better known these days as a port replicator that you can hook all that stuff up to and when you get home, you just pop the laptop onto this device and you're up with a "desktop" type system. If you can deal with the slowness of the laptop, it's an excellent way to go.
There are some laptops that are very fast though, but you'll pay a price for them.

Sorry, I should have made myself clear.
I agree with Bryan re business files (I carried my whole business life about in a laptop for quite a long time with no problems); but I meant photographic work and I still say you shouldn't use a laptop for colour control and editing on photographs.
