I've just decided to splash out on a new desktop as my old one is crashing a bit too much .
Specs
Intel core2 Duo processor 2.13 GHz (1066 FSB)
Twin seagate 500 GB Sata hard drives .
Kingston 4GB Ram (667 MHz)
Lite-on 20X DVD -/+
Nvidia 512 mb SVGA+HDTV graphics card .
22'' iiyama wide TFT monitor.
Dual TV tuner (record as you watch 2 different channels)
7.1 sound card.
Skype pre installed + built in phone .
Wireless g' card installed
Bluetooth
Laser mouse
3 years warranty .
plus Vista premium .
Vista is the issue .
Who's either upgraded or bought pre-installed Vista and are there any problems installing Photoshop CS/CS2 .
Plus any other installation issues that i might get , remembering that i've a Nikon and Fuji camera's .
Last month i bought a new laptop (Toshiba Satellite P1OO) with Vista installed and have'nt had any problems with that yet , but no camera or PS related gear has been installed on that yet .
So any known problems from people in the ''real'' world ?

Am running Vista Ultimate, with CS3, and no problems .... the only Vista related problems so far I have experienced is with OpenGL.

Was that a new copy of CS3 Steve or an upgrade from CS .
I've had CS for 2 years now and already have CS2 upgraded onto it .
Apart from the ''selection'' tool what else has impressed you with CS3 ?

Its a new copy Brian, not an upgrade ... decided to go all legal with the new release :)
I like the new Bridge, it vertainly seems a lot faster, and smoother, I like the Fill Light options when opening CR2 RAW files, and I am presuming this is the same for all RAW files. I only shoot with Canon now.
I havent went into too much depth experimenting at the moment, got clients phtoos to do so ened to finishe them prior to play time :)
The new spec you speak of will be fine, althuogh CS3 does show as using just over 800K RAM sitting idle and bridge isa further 500K so I would recomend 4 Gb RAM now and I am putting another 2 in mine to take it to 4Gb
My spec is Altlon 64 x2 E6000
2Gb 800FSB RAM (soon to be 4Gb 1066)
120Gb internal SATA II drive
(Awaiting Deskstar 750Gb coming)
External 400Gb USM backup drive.

I recently bought a new laptop with Vista pre-installed. I've had a number of small driver-related issues, none regarding Adobe products though. Also, Vista is still pretty young - I've had some crashes that reminded me of the early XP days...
The main thing seems to be the memory - Vista is a HOG! But with 4Gb you should be OK.

There was an early NEF corruption issue reported on several fora. I'd look for a fix for that before hooking up any data drives.

That new PC carries some spec Brian! 1T of hard drive storage :woot: I was told to let Vista settle before buying, not that I've any need as XP does the job! Remaids me Microsoft released the origional XP back in 2001.

Thanks Paul i'm using capture 1 to edit NEF files , heard it won't be compatable without a fix , i'll have to see.
Steve i've also got 2 500GB ex drives for photo's , so i should be covered for storage
As or Vista , i've been running it on my laptop for a month now and really like the new interface , no bugs yet .
But i've only ''works'' ,''encarta'' and a TV card installed .

I just did the same thing before I went on vacation Brian. Just getting a few things back up and running really.
You shouldn't have any problems with Photoshop (2 or 3) or any Adobe products for that matter.
Capture One Pro v3.7.7 works on Vista just fine for me as well. Although my 30 day trial is almost over so I'll have to end up paying for it is all. haha.
I went with:
Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad core 2.66ghz
4GB low latency memory
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX
2 WD Raptor 74gb SATA 10krpm drives raid 0 for the boot and programs
2 WD 500 SATA 2 drives (seperates) for data.
My old machine (AMD 64 FX-57) finally got bloated and had a few things I couldn't fix. Being 15 months old, it was time to upgrade. So that's sitting as a "server" and general machine up in my Garage with basically the same drive setup as above.
I love the new Windows key-Tab 3d switching thing (have to be running Aero Glass mode to use it) in Vista...

I agree the aero interface looks good but is it a novelty ? , how many applications do you really need open at any one time .
But at the moment it's fun to thumb through the open pics :D
And the taskbar now shows ''live'' pics of applications when you pass the curser over it .
The really usefull 'new' thing , is the google sidebar and gadgets , pity it's mainly U.S. based for breaking news , but the juke box and google search are really handy .
Not sure i like the new folders look , before i could put a pic on the front of my folders , now all i get is a open folder with some hard to view pics showing .
But i'll get used to it .
Speed seems a lot faster and no obvious bugs showing up yet .
