Hi All,
I have just started to shoot in RAW format on my s2. I am still trying to wrap my brain around all this stuff. (raw conversions, sRGB, workspace, embedded....)

Today, I shot some pix of my sons. WHen I looked at the photos on the LCD screen, they looked just fine. THey looked exposed properly, contrast looked great... When I uploaded it into photoshop, they looked muddy and drab. What's going on here? I don't want to get discouraged yet. Why would the photos look so differently from the camera to the computer?

Then I also had a fuji window come up when i clicked on the RAW photo. Do you all use that program/plug in?

How do i get the camera to shoot sRGB instead of adobe RGB? If i am going to print my pix, i know i want to have them as sRGB, so how to i shoot w/ that color mode in the first place?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to figure this out. I have been a little disappointed w/ some of the photos I have been getting lately. They seem to be underexposed a lot, and grainy.

Thanks!
siswolf

Hi Sis,
Why would the photos look so differently from the camera to the computer?Might want to calibrate your monitor, thats the first thing that comes to mind.Do you all use that program/plug in?No, I use Rawshooter (http://www.pixmantec.com/purchase/downloads.asp) (essentials 2006). Its free... :D

Been a while and I don't remember how to change the color profile for your S2 (can it be done??), but I print my own photos and use RGB.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

Hello Siswolf,

Photoshop does not read the S2's embedded settings that it used to take the shot, only the white balance. You have to manually adjust the contrast, saturation etc, etc, to get what you want. The fuji software on the other hand reads all the information and will show you nearly what you see on the preview of the camera, although that is a compressed jpeg preview.
I can't remember if you can change from adobe rgb to srgb but if you shoot in RAW then you are not using a colour space until you import that raw file for processing.

I have been told about Raw shooter essentials before. DO you use it instead of Photoshop?
My computer is so old, i am not sure if i can have both programs on here.

Thanks for the advice!

I don't know if RawShooter supports S2 but Silkypix and S7Raw do this for sure!

Don't have the S2 anymore, but there should be a setting in one of the menus in the camera to switch between sRGB and Adobe 1999 RGB.

No way Bryan, you can only choose sRGB or AdobeRGB from the HyperUtility software or any other Raw Converter.

You're correct Billy. Been a while, but just broke out an S2 and looked, no place to change it in the camera...

Like Dave, "No, I use Rawshooter (essentials 2006). Its free... ",
I love using it. Has batch processing function in the background, cut and paste setting between images, and supports .NEF, which CS2 still doesn't.
Even Picasa and Panorama Studio support the D200 NEFs directly.

Today I shot at the Atlanta aquarium. In-camera the shots looked very good (I was shooting RAW). When I got them in the computer, they were almost black...levels were compressed to the left. Using flash or not, all pics were amazingly dark. Why does the camera show a perfectly exposed image and the result is unusable ?

What camera?
With the S2 I use CW metering, results on camera LCD and my monitor are very close, while with the D70 are almost identical.

I'm using a D200, Billy. I've been doing this for years...I've shot in RAW once before with this camera without a problem. I used Rawshooter to convert to TIFF. RAW and converted files are DARK! I don't understand what's going on.
