Just thought I would let you know that with lots of input/opinions I did finally decide that since the Canon i 9000 has been discontinued I would replace my dead/outdated Epson 1280 with the new Canon i 9100. It is a dream! Setup was simple and the times for printing speed which I didn't believe are now a reality. Wow, is it fast! The 4 x 6 comes out right at 37-40 seconds while the 8.5 x 11 came out at 1 minute and 20 seconds. Guess the 3072 nozzles that Canon puts in the head is the reason? Also nice is the fact that the head; if it ever does die, is owner replaceable. So far the prints that I have done in my excited last two days are incredible!

The printer uses ink which is rated according to Canon to have an archival value of 25 years. There are 6 individual tanks which I think will be a huge savings over the Epson cartridge system.

Hoe much did you pay for this printer?
I just had to have my 1270 cleaned again and am getting frustrated.

Evening Smunky!
The printer was out of stock at almost every dealer here in the Houston area. Those that had it priced it at $500. I picked up the phone and called B & H and they had it in stock and ready to ship at $449.95 plus shipping ($36.00 to me) so I ordered it from them. I have been nothing but amazed at the prints that I have made and do not miss the Epson 1280 at all. So far, I can tell you that everything in the Canon specs is true. I am impressed!
Hope this gives you the info you requested and if you do buy one give me an e-mail one of these days and give me your opinion!

Congrats on your i9100 - it is an awesome printer. I have the s9000 which is similar in print quality (but cannot do borderless at 13" x 19"). The separate ink tank system is great - just replace the individual color as opposed to replacing the whole cartridge.
I find that I go through the photo magenta (PM) and photo cyan (PC) twice as fast as the other colors (except yellow, which tends to go next). I keep spares of these "just in case".
Happy printing!

Hey Ballroom!
Thanks for the comments about the i 9100 and also your comments about which ink tanks to watch for first replacement. I will take your advice as a "newbie" and keep some replacements on hand.
I don't miss the Epson 1280 and its' cartridge system even a little bit!
Have a great weekend!

Hi just got my i9100 on a recent trip back to the USA. I Love It! I was going to buy the Pixus 9100i (Japanese market canon) but I was worried about not being able to read the software. Anyway the price was about the same. I can buy Canon ink here for about $8.50 but I would like to know how you guys using the goodie ink refills are fairing. Problem with the 19x13 prints: it blows up any problems the photographer had ie unsteady hands! It will keep me on my toes and force me to get better!

Hi FrankGH!
I Have just begun to use the ink from Inkjet Goodies. Filling and refilling the new cartridges they send as part of the package is a breeze. I am now on my second refills of the most used colors and have made every size print that can be made on the printer including some 13 x 19 borderless portraits on Photo Paper Pro. They continue to be beautiful and comparing them with prints done with Canon inks I can't see any difference. So far I am thoroughly pleased-expecially with the price per refill! By the way I am also using some Epson papers as well as some Red River paper with excellent results!
Continued good luck with the i9100!
