Are there any to fit 80-400mm lens ? I understand both TC 14a and 201 will downgrade it to manual focus without VR.
Maybe some updated TC's are about to release?

Igor,

There are four converters made by Nikon that will fit the vr 80-400 and vr 70-200

They are:

TC-14E

TC-14EII

TC-20E

TC-20EII

The only difference i can see between the E and EII is a different cap that doubles as a body cap.

These cannot be used with the AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8 IF-ED or

the AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 IF-ED as the rear elements of the lens could touch the front elements of the converter.

Both retail around the £300 mark in the UK.

Hope this helps

Thanks David,
but I'm afraid none of them retains the VR capability...

Igor,

I have the 70-200 VR lens and the TC-20E II teleconverter.

The VR function appears to work with this setup, there is no mention of incompatability in the instruction books for either.

In fact both teleconverters are listed in the optional accessories, i would have thought they would work with the 80-400 VR as well.

Igor,

Check out http://tinyurl.com/oxvn this is the spec's page from B&H for the Nikon 70-200 VR . Although it doesn't state the VR works with it, one can assume it does by being listed as a "Usable Teleconverter". They do say (Autofocus), does that mean the autofocus works and the VR doesn't?? Hmmmm, I'll have to give them a call and report back, because I'm thinking about the same setup.
