People,

I am about to buy an external flash unit, probably the SB50 DX. The question I would like to put concerns the ISO settings.

When out side on a nice bright day I always set to 100 for obvious reasons and when lighting conditions demand I then adjust accordingly. What should one do with the ISO when the external Flash fitted.

I've had excellent results outside in the shade, at weddings, by setting the camera to Program, ISO 100, and using the SB-80DX, with the diffuser on. Set the flash on Matrix TTL and I don't see why the SB-50DX shouldn't do the same thing.

The SB-50DX does use (2) CR 123A batteries, I'm not sure I'd mess with that flash unit. Even here in the U.S. where we can buy the 123's in bulk for about $1.25 each.

Thanks gents,

That sure answers my question. Based on that info I think I will go for the 80DX instead.

Those damm CR123's are a complete rip off!! They cost 5.00 uk pounds EACH!! I'll let you guys work that in to $.

Steve,

Why are you going for a Dx series strobe? As the S2 shoots TTL like a film cam, you can use normal strobes like the SB-28, Metz, etc.

DX strobes are designed for DSLR's that don't shoot true TTL and they're more expensive I believe, maybe not. Bottom line is that you don't need a DX strobe with the S2.

Steve, I buy the 123's on ebay for about $1 each. Good Duracell's ! Try it.
