I was looking at the reviews of the Nikon 24-120 Vr lens. The images look great but the 3.8-5.6 seems like it would be a problem. We do mosty weddings and family pictures and the veriable f stop would be very differant. In most ceremonys we shot 2.8, I might get by with 3.8 but when I would zoom in the f stop would change to 5.6 is that right? And how would that work with the camera on manual and 3.8 and then zoom to 120? I never used a zoom that wasnt fixed and wonder how this effects camera settings. Is this a lens more for program mode so the camera can make the changes as needed? And if this is so then the lens would need plenty of light because you would always have to think 5.6 for every shot in case you would want to zoom in and out, is this right. Were looking into a second S2 and hate to spend the money on a second 28-70 2.8 lens. As always, thanks for advice and suggestions. Rocky:confused:

I'm nowhere near as experianced a wedding photographer as you, but since i bought the 24-120 i've done 2 weddings and hand held in the church at 1600 iso, at f8, granted it was a really bright day , and quite light in the church, but they all came out fine. see if you can borrow/rent one to try out .
I can't show an example ,because i don't keep copies, they all go, on cd to the bride/groom.
IT'S not a fast lense at 3.8, but it is light, and very pracitable for my needs.
Hope some of this helps Brian

Correct. But if you shoot like Sandman, using something like F8, it will not change when you zoom.
It's the weekend! I get to try mine out! I'm still waiting to see some daytime outdoor shots using this lens. I've been anxiously waiting for the weekend.
Now, what to shoot...

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. If I could shot at f8 that would indeed work. My concern is some of the area churchs here are very dark. Last week and this will be f2.8, ISO 800 and somewhere around 1/45 or 1/30 for the shutter. Even at 1600 a f8 would need a very slow shutter ( less than 1/15 ) to get corect exposure. Maybe we could only use this lens for a reception and other things as it does seem to be a good lens and creats a great image. Andre let me know how your weekend goes. Thanks again and have a good weekend.

Hi there
I have been looking at this lens with great interest. For those of you who have it, what is the barrel distortion like, especially from 24-35mm?
Thanks!

I don't think I'm picky enough yet to notice that sort of thing, but I haven't seen any problem yet.
