Many of us had/had the Nikon lens #1 : AF 80-200/2.8.
I too had three of them, and sold all three. Why? because my samples were soft up to f/4, and I wanted sharpness at f/2.8

Now I got it, this time from "GrandDad", AIS manual focus version of this lens.

The sample shot taken at200mm, f/2.8 : downsized full frame and 1:1 crop.

Hi Igor!

Congrats! :righton: Sounds like we've got the same version (or did you get the first non one-touch MF version?). It's very sharp but very bulky as well...

Btw, I recently bought it's big brother, an AIS 200-400/4.0 - should arrive next week... can't wait...

Alex

Thanks Alex and congrats on your GREAT lens purchase!
I believ only selected Holy own the two-ring AIS 80-200/2.8  :)
It's very rare, I never saw any on offer anywhere....

Be sure to let me know when you have first shots with your 200-400.

BTW, just sold the Vivitar 90-180 macro. Maybe yours is better, but mine was below expectations ;)

Hi Igor!

Sure thing! ;)

Sorry to hear about the 90-180! Maybe it's because I've never used mine on a high resolving body - the D2X may bring out the worst of it...

Alex
