Hi Gang,

I have been using the Nikkor 28-105mm "D" zoom on my S1/S2 for the past year and have been very happy with it. The colour, contrast, and sharpness are superb. The only drawbacks for me is that it is slow focussing and a weird range (42-157.5mm with the 1.5x FOV crop) on the S2.

I bought a 12-24mm AF-S DX lens last week and I love it! The AF-S lens focusses in a snap! It is truly awesome (not to forget, having the ultra wide view back is great too).

Have any of you compared the Nikkor 24-85mm AF-S "G" lens with the Nikkor 28-105mm AF-D in terms of colour, contrast, and sharpness? The 24-85mm would be a nicer range but most importantly, it would focus in an instant. Also, what is the barrel/pincushion distortion like compared to the 28-105mm?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Ballroom Boy,

I have the Nikkor 28/105 3.5 D and at times it can be a little soft. It's great when you have the time to compose the shot, however when you need to snap in a hurry I find it can blur on occasion.

I have read in another tread that the S2 likes wider f's but I can't see that this should make things softer/ out of focus!!

HI there

I bought the 24-85mm G AFS lens a few weeks back and I love it. It seems to have the same colour/contrast as the 28-105mm (even though the former has ED glass in it, the latter doesn't) and it is tack sharp. I love how quickly and silently if foccussess too.

Having 24mm on the short end is nice, especially with the 1.5x FOV crop on the S2. 28mm just doesn't cut it for me.

So, I can highly recommend this lens to anyone who is interested. The price is right too...

I must admit I am spoilt by this lens. I thought all lenses were like this one, how wrong I was!
