Ok, thanks for all of the help with the MB-16 mod. It took me about 30 minutes and it works. I haven't used the plastic piece or tape on the eletrical connection piece, but it works.

My big question is how will the batteries drain in each of the trays . . . equally? Will I know when the batteries in the MB-16 are drained vs. when the batteries in the S2 tray are drained.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I bought the body and the grip on Friday and have only shot about 30 frames so far.

I've been using two Nikon D1's for the past year and from what I see so far . . . WOW!

Scott,

I have been using the MB16 for some time now.
Batteries will drain disproprtianately. Indication on the camera will be as normal, either by battery indicator, ERR msg, or camera non-functioning. I'm using 2200mv rechargables in both trays.

WARNING!!! If you load "hot" batteries in the MB16 battery tray it tends to overload a very sensitive thermal resistor that then makes the camera inoperable for days. The camera will return to normal function, but most likely after that shoot you had scheduled. If the batteries are warm to the touch or straight from the charger, don't load them. That is one reason to have a spare tray.

Best,

Michael

Scott,

I use the MB16 all the time and I dont have any plastic tape or rings on mine.

Happy shooting, MB16 and rechargeable AAs saves you tons of money !!
