Has anyone else noticed how grey / dull the preview images are in the D200 compared to the S2 Pro ? Can anything be done about it ?

Unfortunately nothing. The D2x and D200 LCD's are really poor quality, however they help you to not overestimate your shot (as S2 does)

I thought that as well, but then I found the brightness adjustment in the menu.

Not to be mean but I actually dislike the way most camera lcd's show a vibrant image while the actual image is nothing like that. It renders the preview quite useless other than composition. :baldy:

On my previous cameras (S2pro, E-1) I had to turn the brighness way down in order to get as close as possible to the actual image. And it wasn't even enough then. With the D2X a mild reduction was sufficient. Apparantly a pro-camera feature :D

Well, I agree with Theo. I like the new screens much more than the one on the S2. The colours are more natural, and most important, the view angle is great. With the S2 I had to make sure I am perpendicular to the LCD in order to get a credible preview. With my D200 I can watch from different angles and I see the same picture. The D200 screen is definitely more accurate.

The above said might be OK for studio shooting, but in the bright sunshine you can almost see nothing on the LCD no matter how backlit it is. S2 was much better in this regard.

Well, I never do studio shooting...always on location...inside and outside. I have no problem viewing the lcd on my D2X in bright sunshine (which amounts to 3 or 4 hours a year here in the Netherlands  ). I simply hold the camera in the shadow while viewing the lcd...MY shadow that is :haha:

Btw I only take a glance at the lcd, and not even for every picture...

Sorry Theo, but when I went to California via Schipol, we had bright sunshine both way at the airport, so it looks like you might be in for a dark year!
