What can I say gentlemen come in all ages and I'm lucky enough to have a little one who has volunteered to come help me.

This is Zach he's eleven and going to come hang out this weekend so I can practice on something besides a doll, his mother works downstairs from my office. I took a quick snap of him so I could see the difference in working with real skin etc.

Only because you guys have been so patient and generous would I share something so bad although honestly I didn't even adjusts the lights or anything...I will tomorrow though to see what I can do with catchlights etc.
I did find out today why the modeling light was on/off on the fill light the cord was loose.

Here is the snap where I tried two different programs one is CS the other is Capture One quite a difference in colors! I used the S2 and honestly I'd forgotten how fast I go through batteries I'm used to a couple thousand shots before I have to recharge with the D2x or the 1dmII I think I'll look for that a/c adapter this weekend.

Now for the promised laughter my first snap of a human with lights :) , you are given my permission to just  I will get better now you've got a starting point (I better be improved by Monday when I actually adjust lights or something! oh make sure the other one is plugged in all the way!)

Fantastic first live studio shots! Your lighting looks very good. The image on the right seems to be a little on the magenta side. It's amazing how much difference is in the processors.

Great start!!!

Thank you for your generous compliment Carlton, I appreciate it. Even with laughter it took a lot for me to post these. I'm ready to be ripped apart and told what to do so I can learn.

I've got to get a grey card or a correct color of just white paper to use so I can sort of measure off of that during processing. The right is PSC2 I agree the skin is too red although honestly his eyes I 'think' are closer to their actual color. I'll find out more tomorrow when I see him again.

Oh and thank goodness my modeling light works again, I turn off the lights so there isn't any other light source, it's new to me and I'm lost without the modeling to show me where it's going I just hoped here.

I can't get over how incredibly polite and well behaved he is.....he had one of his friends and when they found out they could kick off their shoes and crank up my stereo while I practiced they now think my studio is a very cool place to 'hang out' ( I don't have to admit to them that's what I do all the time do I? )

The left image looks a little yellow to me, did you white and black point set in levels to see if they'd even out? Interesting thread!

Tomorrow, I'd try that- as it tends to even out color balance differences pretty well, then you're just left with some contrast differences if you eyedropper the same spot on both images.

You do know you can put PS on two systems using one license, right?

Thanks Paul I'll try it tomorrow.

Yep I have it on my big computer at the office it's got the big dual monitors and such so it's easier for me to work on and then I have it on my laptop.

I just don't bring my cards or external hard drives home with me unless I've got to just chose images or something and plan on working all night etc. My office is literally about .75 of a mile from my home the studio is about 50 feet further it's one heck of a commute :haha:

Well done on your first shots. It looks like you have got the background sorted out now.
I can't wait to get some lights and start doing some myself. You have inspired me Melody.

Thank you Andrew :) If I inspired the fun and joy of learning something new that's wonderful.

Yesterday all at one time I had 4 adults, 5 children and 1 5mos old bulldog puppy!

I uh hadn't planned on that large of a group.....but hey what the heck a blonde has no fear (well except heights) so we just laughed and went for it! Some aren't too bad however the memories they hold are great, new friends, fun and learning all at once, it's a nice way to do it.

The one father is already chomping at the bit to buy pictures, and the other popped into my office (he knows where it is instead of the studio) I edited some today and was going to share here however when I previewed omg the color is horrid on the web, now on my fancy monitor and my printer they come out beautiful so I'm not about to touch anything right now in order to share them

Thanks again, I'm sure to be back with evidence of my blonde learning curve :p

Just saw this, well done Melody :righton:
He's a serious 11 yr. old, you've captured some essence of his character,
the hallmark of any good portrait!
