Received the TC-14b teleconverter a few days ago, decided to test it with 400/3.5 first as this combo gives 560mm f/4.8, and is easily hand holdable.
D2x meters and "passive focuses" with it just fine.

Two sample shots below,
ISO200, RAW, 1/200 (#1), 1/180 (#2). Shot in bursts, handheld.
f/8 both (I stopped down the lens to f/5.6, as 1. it was pretty sunny, and 2. wide open wasn't very sharp)

#3 is 1:1 crop, unprocessed.

Ouch! looks a cracking combo. I wonder what a tiff file looks like.

Thanks Barbara and Andrew.
Andrew, I converted the RAW file to JPG directly, but with minimum compression. Actually there is no visible difference with a TIFF file.

Igor,

I was looking at the detail in the feathers and the jpeg compression has taken some of the detail out. But the overall image quality looks great.

Andrew, I think you mean some kind of moire, which occurs on tiny detail and is frequently present on both D2x and D70 images. It's visible even on RAW files.

Good combo and detail for this 560mm, you tried the 1.7 on it yet?

Thanks Dave.
No, as you know AF-I/AF-S TC's require a small surgery to fit other lenses. I am not sure I'll do so, as TC-14b / TC-301 are quite good for my long tele's...

Oops sorry, forgot that minor adjustment required...

Might have to find a 600 someday if I can work it into my $$... :cry2:
