Brown shadows

I often find that my shadow areas, especially in the transition area from light to dark, turn brownish instead of just darkening as they would on film. Any one else see this? Any suggestions?

This means you have a color cast, as shadows are neutral, even if their neighbors aren't (a quote by Leonardo da Vinci, in Margulis' Photoshop Color Correction book). Are you working on a PC? If so, buy Color Washer, a Photoshop plug-in that will solve your problem.
