Hi Mel
I wouldnt rush into a lighting system until I knew more about it.
Try to figure out your own lighting goals.
Check out some professional shooters and ask questions.
You can spend $100 on a light modifier or $10,000.
Get all the info you can from professional camera shops and brochures.
Maybe see if there are any professional lighting courses in your area, attend lighting demos.
Asisde from owning the gear, consider where you can store and shoot.
Leaving them set up in a full time studio situation leads to consistency.
Light is everything!

Thanks Doug,
This sounds decent not until Jan 28, 2006
This limited-space seminar is a full-day introduction to portrait lighting in a working studio space. As one of 10 participants, you will learn proper metering, safety, and use of top-of-the-line studio lighting equipment and light modifiers. This hands-on class is geared toward photographers who have never shot with studio lighting, but it would also benefit intermediate photographers who want to finetune their skills.
The store does sell Profoto's etc. however then the rebate would be over and you know how I like SALES!!

Haste makes waste.
With electronic flash, like motorcycles and cars, bigger is always better!

LOL!!
Well I did just place a call to the store manager in Orange County he's very nice and helped me before. I want to see who is giving that class and what the odds are of a private class before hand..............you see I'm not a patient person if I want something
However I am very stubborn and will try something until I finally get it, I'm not saying it happens quickly but if I want it, it will eventually :)

Well Kyle remembered me odd I haven't bought much there typically buy through B & H although I can't beat what he offered. He will give me a lighting demonstration on the Profoto and the Bowens apparently the Bowens battery pack was rated higher then the Profoto by the PPA or something says makes no difference to him he sells both types and not on commission.
Anyway demonstration and he will put together a package of each that I can rent to play with and whatever I decide the rental fee will be deducted from my purchase price.
Very nice of him considering how busy they are before the holiday and people are willing to just walk in and pay without demos. I can't find any difference in price between stores on the Profoto either so I wouldn't be paying extra for the service.

 You cant go wrong with profoto unless you want a purely field setup ot take up hills and remote places. In which case Nikon/Canon flashes fit the bill better than any studio flash.
Profoto is also super easy to sell used. Check ebay and most forums, there is a huge demand for the gear but little supply used, not many people sell it once they have it ;) So if in a month or 2 of having the gear you decide to sell it it will go in a "flash" on ebay for close to the msrp.
The kit is good. If you get 2 kits you can do almost anything. I would add some 7in grid reflectors that take standard 7" grids which are cheap [you can speedotron grids or any other]. With 5 flash heads you will have nice capability.

I wonder why Samy's and Calumet show the rebate from Profoto and yet I can't find anything at B & H I guess I'll have to call B & H tomorrow.
I've got stupid questions on the kits I'll start another thread, see how good I'm trying to be and keeping them straight and easier to find? me the queen of hijacks
