Good afternoon everyone,
I bought an Epson 1290 S a good three years back but was never that happy with the results so I tend to get proper photographic prints instead. Now I've been hearing good things about the R1800 and was wondering if anyone here had one. Would I see an improvment over the 1290?

Hi Steve, I've been more than happy with the 1290 at home for quite a while and, like you, am ready to move on to something else. I'll be interested to see what way you go.
I recently bought both an 1800 and a 4800 for my factory. The 4800 blows you away (it would do at £1500) but I have to admit I am disappointed in the 1800. In spite of more than one calibration/profile the colour just isn't as good as the 1290. I'm seriously thinking of taking it back to the shop. It may be that I am just unlucky and have got a rogue model, so hopefully there will be more answers to enlighten both of us.

I have the 2100 and am very happy with that. The R1800 has the latest waterproof inks and gets good write ups on that. I think Auminer has a thread somewhere about it.

Would I see an improvment over the 1290?Well Steve if you go to the thread just under this one titled "Epson R1800, water etc" you will get a little more input. Glo and I were discussing water on prints, but also quality of the prints. I can't give a comparision to the 1290, I haven't used it. I do have the 1280, but that is for dye sub printing only.(not photo dye sub) I couldn't be happier of more pleased with the output and color of the R800 I have. I choose the R800 because I use (near future) it for a mobile printer. Showed a 5x7 to a potential customer and his comments were something like "WOW, I would like a 8x10 of that...love the details and the way it stands out"! We would call it "PoP" ;) Sold him the $50.00 version ;)
The R800 and the R1800 are the same critter, just wider format with the R1800.
