I don't know if anyone will remember me, I've been away and offline more than two months because of a lot of long distance travel to places with no computers or very slow ones. Now back and catching my breath, I hope to post a bit of what I got to see.

That said I finally hooked up a new Epson R1800 printer I had sitting in box for too long. I was moving slow on switching from my Canon S9000 fearing vibrancy would be the price I'd pay for the archival inks. It turns out to be not so; colors are lovely, the prints look great, very faithful to whats on my monitor. I'm not up to offering a "techie" evaluation but to my eyes, I'd give two thumbs up to anyone looking for a 13x19 archival format. Its also very quiet and nearly as fast as my Canon.

Also, an early print had gotten hosed (resolved with a print head cleaning), so I experimented by sprinkling it then putting the print under the faucet. No running ink ...the picture remained entirely intact, when dried, no signs of having been all but drenched.

Hey Glo, welcome back! Good to see that someone else uses the Epson R-800 or R-1800. I had been asking around and no response, so I jumped on the R-800 going by reports from various places on the net. I wanted the smaller format for my mobile setup only because of its size. Just love the colors and as you say, it matches the monitor. I work the photos from my main 'puter and transfer to the laptop then print from that. Do it that way because I don't have the printer setup near the main 'puter. No color issues!

Agree with your results concerning water, was showing a printed 5x7 the other day in the rain ...no problem, just wipe it off. :)

My main concern was having the printer setting between prints. I don't use it everyday and maybe not for 4-5 days at a time. Heard of clogging issues and was very leary. Turns out that I have had no problems...yet. ;) I do plan on sticking to the OEM inks as the aftermarket inks might be the cause of clogging in some cases.

You must have a collection of photos after your vacation  Waiting to see some of your shots... :)

Dave,
Thanks and am 'glad to hear your epson is also up to expectations. I too had done a search and found few users for this system, maybe yours was one of the few references I found...anyway am glad so far that I took the plunge despite being in the semi-blind. Of course I'll be interested should any issues develop and I'll apprise likewise. Despite temptation I too am not going to risk it with aftermarket inks.

My away time was only half play but even the work part was good... Arabian Peninsula, speedboats to really remote villages, helo tour of SOH, Indonesia for some eye-popping diving (1300 raw exposures, oh woe)....will share some of the views shortly.

Despite temptation I too am not going to risk it with aftermarket inks.In order to reduce your temptation check this place (http://www.atlex.com/Epson/epson-printer/epson-stylus-photo-r800-printer-paper-ink-cartridges.htm) out for geniune Epson inks. I haven't ordered from them yet, but needing to soon. Looks like a good way to save a buck or two. I'll let you know if I run into any problems with these folks. :) ...or the inks.

Ha, three days ago, I received a box of inks and papers I'd ordered from the very same folks...what is it they say about great minds, or is it great internet, or whatever. That leaves me to vouch for its being an excellent tip.

I use the r1800 now but I find myself wanting to print out 13X19 prints all the time, I love the color and how easy it is to use.

I find myself wanting to print out 13X19 prints all the timeI'm smiling 'cause I can relate to ya LiVe :D I am impressed everytime I do another print, and so are my customers! All I have to do is show a few shots that I have printed in 5x7's and they want a 8x10 print...can't beat that!

Guess I should be thinking about going with the R1800 like you, might prove and pay for itself! Now where can I find reasonable, but quality 13x19 frames...?

I have been out of the water for some time now. If the weather is nice, I have to fly. If I get time off, the swells are rolling in at 2.5+ meters... No Fun!

Good to see ya!
