hallo!

This is one *heck* of a lens. I have the 18-35mm (a decent lens) but miss the ultra wide FOV. I think my piggybank may get raided soon to buy one these beauties...

Hello Roel,

which one? ;-)

- the 12-24 (which I would propose)?
- the black (which is for sale)?
- or the blonde (which is definitely not for sale :-)

No kidding: I love this lense since the day I have it, it is really worth the money.

Best Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

1) yes, I want the lens;

2) yes, I would like the car, however, it is probably more than the lens; and

3) the blonde is nice, however, ...

Those are very nice shots of your Porsche. I am amazed how sharp this lens is, even wide open!

Thanks for sharing....

I think I have to clearify a couple of things:

1. The lens is great - and it's mine

2. The Porsche is also great, but it's NOT mine. It was a rented gift for the guy on the picture (a good friend of mine) by his Girlfriend next to him, which brings us to

3. The girl is also not mine ;-)

But anyway, I am satisfied by

4. owning the lens

5. bringing the Porsche up to 280 km/h (German Highways rulez!!!)

Peter

I would love to own the lens. Maybe one day!!!! I do own a Porsche but it is a classic 1980 911 SC Targa which has been meticulously restored but still a work in progress. I have owned this Porsche since it was new but did not get a chance to try it on the Autobahn. I have driven a Porsche on the autobahn in the past and it was a real adrenaline rush. Unfortunately, the last 5 or 6 times I have been back to Germany in the last 8 or 9 years has shown me that driving really fast on the Autobahn is almost a thing of the past. I will check with Linda and see if we have the picture of the BMW Cabriolet high up in a tree after hitting a tour bus and going airborne.

P.S. The airborne BMW was near Wuerzburg on the autobahn from Frankfurt. It passed us at an unreasonable speed with the driver talking on a cell phone. Needless to say, a few miles up the road, we hit a Stau or traffic jam which lasted for many miles and many minutes.

Here is a shot I took with my new Nikon 12-24mm lens. The lens takes really crisp shots and the colors look outstanding. It is becoming my favorite lens (for wide shots) very quickly. This shot was at a custom motorcycle shop grand opening. Ken

Has anybody shot architecture with this lens? I was wondering about the distortions? (barrel/pincushion)

great image,

can't wait I've had my 12-24mm on order for about a month, I though Santa would have pulled out the stops, but no such luck yet.

thanks for sharing, I wish I had broadband, it took an age to load but it was worth the wait.

traumlandschaft,

Would you mind if I borrowed that car so I can test my lens?

I promise I'll bring it right back!

The wife surprised me this morning with the Nikkor 12-24mmf/4 AD-S DX lens for my birthday. I just could not wait to take a few shots so my dog got to be the test subject. I am reallly impressed with the lens and can't wait to really try it out. I have attached a reduced photo. On-board flash was used

Broke down and bought one. I need the wide for a series of Home interiors this month...

First snaps with it, showing the space I share with another guy. It's divided into two shooting spaces. I'll spare you the office, model change room etc...

This is as clean as it gets, since we're usually quite busy

Are these two shot at 12mm? No radical pincushioning or distortion at all!

I just ordered mine from Cameta Camera Ian, can't wait to get it.

If someone is looking for a barely used Nikkor 12-24 I traded mine in to Tallyns a couple days ago. May be able to get a new lens at a good price. They truly are a nice lens.

Woo-Hoo! Got mine. W I D E and parallel distortion again! Something I truely love in WA. You won't find me buying any PC correction SW (wink)

Things are going pretty high on ebay right now. Just sold several there. People seem to like the "Buy It Now" feature. One of my auctions went in 4 hours, the other six; and I had them pegged on the high side for used!

Mike,

Would you say the 12-24mm DX is a sharp lens when shot @ f-4?

I'm interested in purchasing this lens, and I can see myself shooting it "wide-open" most of the time.

Damn shame it's not a 2.8.

Very sharp, sharper than the Nikkor 20-35 f2.8 I had previously; and that was considered a very good lens.

Here I am waiting for the 17-55 and all your comments are making me reconsider back to the 12-24 again...oh, woe., what to do

buy both

Actually it boils down to how wide you want to go. The 17-55 will only be 25.5mm wide on the S2. The 12-24mm allows a sweet 18mm view, the Sigma/Tamron 14mm a 21mm field of view compard to full frame digital or 35mm film.

...Wouldn't I love to!!!
But if I have to decide which for now, one of my other questions is how much at F4 hunts in low light (for example, underwater), wondering if there is an appreciable diff from the faster lens in that regard. Or, if I am splitting hairs on that question...

Globug, as a former UW photographer wish I could help you more. My 12-24 is so new I haven't tried it in demanding low light yet. I'll run a few shots at dusk in the bushes and let you know if it hunts.

I have used the Sigma 14mm f2.8 on my S2 underwater and it works well.

I would guess that the 12-24 would do just as well if not better. It is a very contrasty lens and produces great images. I have just tried thew 12-24mm in my Ikelite port for the Sigma 14mm. It fits but I will probably stick with teh Sigma u/w as the port doesnt allow me to use the zoom function.

Congrats on getting one!
'Will stand by to learn how it does in those dusk shots.

yeah, if the port doesn't allow the zoom that surely makes sense.

Re the hunting issue, now I'm starting to realize why people being down lights besides for their strobes.

The WA port that would fit on my housing allows access to the zoom on the 12-24, but I haven't been able to determine if the 17-55 zoom is in just enough different a place to prevent accessing it w/that dome port. Than again maybe zoom u/w isn't all that critical and a faster 14mm would make more sense.

That wide an angle also raises the lighting issue; I'm guessing with the 14mm you are using two strobes? I've only acquired one so far that I'm using with the 60mm macro, going wide like that would be a whole new world...

limited money and so many possibilities!
