Great shots Andre!
I love this "cheapo" lens and use it more frequently than my "expenso" 80-400 VR just because it's lighter, smaller and produces GREAT color!

I had trouble deciding where to post this because I don't know if it is a lens issue or a camera issue, or the photog (na, it couldn'd be me!) LOL
Northern York HS colors are purple and white. There football uniforms are purple and white. This past Friday night I took my S2 and the 70-300mm to the football game. Took some shots. It will take two pictures to show what I'm talking about here. In the first picture the uniform are showing up a bit on the purple side, but show a little like blue, not as purple as these uniforms are. It is a little daylight at this point. On the second picture, much later in the evening, it is dark out and the only light I'm using are the stadium lights. The color showing on my monitor at this point is blue, not purple at all.
Other than this color issue I was very satisfied with the results from this lens. I'm taking these pictures from about half way up the grandstand (my guess is about 50 yard away in both pictues). The lighting is OK but I've seen football fields lite much better. I'm shooting at 1600 iso. Program mode, org, org, standard with auto while balance. I thought the pictures came out very well for the conditions, except for this color issue.

This can be a common problem even with traditional film. As the clothing colours are usually man made they reflect and absorb light differently under different lighting conditions and therefore change colour. I shot a wedding on neg film once and bridesmaids dresses that were a green satin turned out a reddish colour. Had some had explaining to do.

You could be right there easternherp. I was looking after reading your reply and I noticed the strips on the players helmets out on the field do look more purple. The funning thing is, then I looked down and the strips on the helmets of the players on the side line look blue. geeezzzz
Incidentally, these pictures were taken hand held. I'm sure the little bit out of focus on picture number 1 was hand shake. Must have been that little flask of Old Grand Dad at half time that steadied my hands for picture number 2.
