Well I dropped the dollars and now have a 2200 for small prints and proofs. I had to get one since I am winding up doing the pages for a book project on cut sheet and my standard printer can't deal with cut sheet media (he only runs large roll materials on the big printers). Since my outsource was Ultrachrome all along I have not seen much change, except to feel a lot more confident since I can now do small jobs in house again...
I don't know if anyone is still on the fence about this, but I have to say the out of the box experiance with the 2200 was great. Once I added the standard profiles from Epson and other paper manufacturers I started getting prints that were really close to what I got from the big systems. I am just using Photoshop and Qimage as my print drives now - I will wait on Imageprint for a bit. I used Imageprint at the outsource shop, but I just can't see dropping the money today (too much else to spend it on just now). I may not be happy about this when I go B&W, but I can live with it for now since most customer work is color just now.
I also have access to several Imageprint or Piezo shops for special jobs, so saving the money looks like a good choice now.
I have to say that I have been impressed by the Legion Silk - it is darn close to the Epson Semi and Luster products at a nice savings. I still have to evaluate the Ilford products too...
One thing I also have to say is that you do not ever really appear to get rid of bronzing on the 2200 with gloss. I had great results with my first test of the Pictorico Gloss products, but I have to say that there is still bronzing even using their profiles. Not a lot, and the prints are very nice, but it is not a total solution. I will stick with their papers, but my dye print friends will laugh...
Great printer. As soon as I have some decent double sided results I will post notes.
