I like it!, it represents part of our culture. I don't think we as humans are "disgusting creatures", I do think we all have different circumstances that make us who we are, and how we decide to express ourselves.
I hope you don't mind, I played with your shot in photoshop to make it alittle "grittier"

Oooohhhh. I like the shot so much more now, and I don't know that it's the colour, but maybe more the vignetting that makes the feel darker, or as t.hanz said, grittier. Good job.
