View Full Version : Camera straps?

I ditched the Fuji strap in favor of a tamrac N-45 quick release one. Has a leather pad and two quick release clips so when you go tripod mount you can take the strap off.

Color: Black and Brown
Weight: 3 oz. (85 g)
This is the ultimate in camera carrying comfort. The thick foam pad absorbs and distributes the weight. The non-slip suede leather keeps the equipment from slipping off the shoulder. The quick-release buckles allow flexibility for copy stand, tripod or other situations where a strap is in the way.

you can see it there if Mr Ssonnen has turned on image display in this forum.
Only problem is I don't know how much weight the thing can take. It's fine with the 70mm zooms, and I've used it with MF size equipment, but I would be a little leery of 80-200AFS+S2 hanging around my neck (even on the Fuji strap)

Matt

Memobug,
For a lens as big as the 80-200 f/2.8, you may want to check out this chest strap.

IF that does not take you directly to the strap link, just enter chest strap on the B&H search window; youll find it that way too.

I have the Tamrac strap setup on every camera I own. That way I always can grab any strap for any camera and it works. I never have thought about the weight issue because I always felt it to be a very secure system......I have used the S1 with an older (heavy) Nikon 200mm lens and never thought the weight issue at all. I've never had any problems with this setup.

I was pretty relieved by your post until I read the signature line..
;)
I have never had any problem with this setup... Don't think it won't happen just because it hasn't happened yet.

Normally,
I put the strap on that comes with the camera. I see if I like it. I use it and adjust it and use it and adjust it.
Now I took the strap off. I got tired of it getting tangled in the case, tangled with my sync cord, tangled on my tripod knobs, getting snagged on everything, tangled in the Firewire cable, tangled in my eyeglasses (!), tangled in the AC Adapter cord, tangled with my other camera straps in the bag, tangled with my camera bag strap.
It now sits in a box with my other Nikon, Optec, Canon, Mystery, and Generic straps.
NO MORE TANGLES!

You are almost there....
To be truly free, you must now send in a check to the church of THE EVERLASTING STRAP. Upon our receipt of your check (and clearing of the bank) you will feel instant freedom !! And as always, the bigger the check amount the more freedom we will deliver......Can I get an AMEN ???

I also have that strap and love it.
Spent nearly an hour in Ritz camera before I settled on it.

I also bought this strap based on people's recommendations here and at dpreview, and I love it.

As others, I am not a big fan of Camera-Straps... :)
So for this, I use - since years - a Nikon AH-4 on every Camera. Ok, it's really expensive - but if you have it, you will never give it away.
Try it out and tell me what you think about it

PS: Funny Fact: it just works on the S2 - on the D100 with connected MB-D100 it kills the battery door ;)

Money is no object... for a good camera strap! Provided I can remove and install it in less than 5 seconds: I switch back & forth between tripod and handheld frequently, and the N80/S2 was designed by a team of engineers to drop one of the straps directly across the viewfinder in portrait mode!
So, for me, it has to come off quickly! Hence the quick release Tamrac. But if there are other good options, I can be swayed!

Matt

one of the reasons why i still uses fuji's strap is that i often get people asking "what kind of camera is that?" during weddings.
now they can see its a fuji digital from far away and the only questions i got now are "hey 12megapixel huh? how is it?" :P
