Need to upgrade my pc and looking for some suggestions.Budger is 1k without a monitor. What is the best machine for CS2 work?
Do you think the build of the AMD 64 x2 4200+ makes sense? I checked some pricing and it seems that for about 1K one can have a great CS2 desktop. Are there better options? Overclocking, etc. There seems to be alot of discussions on overclock forums about AMD and CS2.

Thanks
Steve

amd usually allows more over clocking than intel does. best site are overclockers.com and tomhardware.com.

I have a single AMD 64 and CS2 flies, but this is just with .tiffs of about 35MB.
If you do scans of hundreds of MB or work with lots of layers then maybe an extra processor would help. Before worrying about the CPU make sure you have lots of RAM and a separate HDD for scratch disc.

Cheers, Robin

I don't know if CS2 works the same on a PC as it does a MAC but the MAC version is designed to make use of the dual processor. So if the PC version is the same then i'd go for the dual processor and plenty of ram and spare disks for scratch.

Hi,

If you can afford the x2 chips they are definately worth considering, they offer far more power for multi-tasking, AMD x2 chips are receiving better reviews than Intel at the moment,

Also remember as mentioned Ram is also an important, possibly cheapest, certainly easiest upgrade.

Kind Regards all.
