We used the Metz 54-4 on our S2s for while now with good results. We tried a SB80 nikon on the S2s and it was terrible, TTL was no where close. When we bought the S3 we also bought a SB800. This flash is great! The TTL is right on and it has a holder for a 5th AA battery. The recycle time is wonderful. I shot 3 quick shots saturday night about 2 sec apart for the cake cutting and the flash kept right up and perfect every time. If you thinking of getting this flash I would recommend it for sure.I traded the quantum flash I got as a rebate for it and am glad I did.

the 2.16 firmware for he S3 is supposed to really tweak the sb800. Fuji claims to make it more compatible

I don't have the S3, but I use the SB800 with my S2 (bought the 800 about 2 months ago) - of course, with the S2, true TTl just isn't there, however, I'm extremely pleased with the 800 on the S2 - just have to treat it like a totally manual flash. Over this past two weekends, I've shot over 1000 pictures, the majority with the flash. (outdoor wedding and reception - 350 pics......children's chorus portraits - 200 pics, and a retirement party in very 'changing' lighting conditions - another 350 pics) - there were very few 'blown' pictures and those that didn't turn out were do to operator error! :) It took a lot of practice, but I now know what settings to use and can set them very quickly .. and, with the fast recycle time, I usually can make adjustments and get another shot off without missing many opportunities. This flash will be on my next generation of camera (whatever that turns out to be.)

Bill

Hi All,
First time poster, so please be gentle!!!
I am a little confused about the posts here about using an S2Pro with the SB800 flash - Bill C says "TTL just isnt there and use the flash in full manual mode", while Rockyw says "TTL is right on with excellent results".
Please, can somebody shed a little light on whether I should/shouldn't be considering this flash for use with an S2Pro?
Thanks

Hi Rocket - Welcome! You will find quite a few good people here, willing to help. Of course, we don't always agree, but that's good to have multiple views on things.
As far as Rockyw saying that 'TTL is right on' - I believe if you re-read his post that he meant TTL with the S3, not the S2.
Also, there have been quite a few message threads over the past 2 years regarding TTL on the S2 ... I suggest that you do a search and you will find some good discussions, and several tests conducted by various members. Most people agree that TTL on the S2 is 'lacking' (However, the combination of the S2 and SB800 can produce some great results - I don't have nearly as many 'blown' shots. I usually shoot TTL or TTL/BL in matrix mode and when I use a diffuser (which is most of the time), I have to compensate by as much as +2 on the flash)
Again, welcome....
Bill

I've just got the Metz 54 mz4i for the S3 and S2. I am quite impressed at how well the flash copes. On the S3 it worked flawlessly once I got used to setting the flash compensation dial on the camera to suit my outdoor fill flash style. Interior shots were spot on. I haven't tried the S2 with it yet but when I get time I will.
