I have not given up on modifying an old IX-Nikkor (APS) 20mm lens to fit onto the S2 body. Technically speaking it won't fit, but I have been able to modify the housing of the lens so that it will, in fact it will fit, read and meter on the S2 body right now.

The problem I am facing is clearance of the lens elements for the mirror to function properly. I am guessing that with the addition of an extension ring that I would be able to use this lens on the S2. I don't often shoot that wide, but it would be nice to have that back as a possibility w/o shelling out another $1,000+.

So, I am not an expert w/ optical theory, etc and I have never worked w/ extension rings, and I have a few questions.

1) Can anyone tell me if I was able to mount a 20mm IX-Nikkor on the S2 what the approximate effective focal length would be? My guess after doing some side-by-sides w/ the N90 @ 20mm on it would be somewhere around 22mm.

2) If I were using an extension ring, am I correct in assuming that autofocus would be gone?

3) The extension ring will not affect the effective focal length right? just focusing distance? Also, would the hyperfocal distance increase or decrease?

Thanks!

I know you are making an honest effort but when I read it I think of red Green and maybe even Rube Goldberg. Good luck in you effort to get wide.
