We just bought a couple of spare battery holders for the S2 at Henry's of Canada for $19 US each. These are really handy at weddings when you need to change batteries. Now we dont have to fummble with the batteries. Just pull out the old magazine and put in the new one. And at $19 each there is no reason not to have several loaded and ready to go.

Do you have a website for this place?
Thanks!

BTW - this is a good place to shop, honest and trustworthy. (I don't work there - but they are local)

I have bought from them on the web and over the phone and was satisfied in the past. However, I was in Toronto recently so I decided to check them out.
The guy at the digital counter was quite a jerk. I went in looking for pricing for CF cards and Microdrives. He basically called me an idiot for using a Microdrive - they will kill your batteries...they are too fragile, etc. He did NOT want to sell me a Microdrive.
Apparently he didn't want to sell me any memory, since he would not budge on his high prices. He was about $100CAD too high on a 1GB Microdrive (as compared to Camera Canada), and about $120 too high on a 1GB CF card.
This guy's attitude (and the high prices) put me off the place.

Sorry to hear about your problems with Henry's, jerks behind the counter can be a real pain and any store worth it's salt should try to match prices. I guess my experience with them has been different than yours, so it's good to get an alternate point of view. Here's a couple of other stores that I deal with in T.O. that you may consider for your next trip, along with my personal impressions of them.

(bought my Fuji and some lenses from them, good stock, good prices, occasional jerkiness. Push for better prices - they can deal if properly motivated. Large used department. Advice has mostly been good.)
http://www.headshotsrentals.com
(Pro caliber store, has Fuji dealership although limited in on-hand stock, will order and ship quickly, competitive pricing - no jerks behind the counter. Can and will order just about anything in for you. Excellent advice and service - good rental department with S2's available.)
http://www.vistek.ca
(Pro caliber although my least favourite, mainly because of the counter jerks - attitude for days, the largest on hand stock in Toronto, good prices and good service, large rental department, large used department, large computer and video department. Bascially they are the biggest. I have bought much from them over the years, but haven't recently. The attitude seems to be if you aren't buying a Phase unit or spending $50,000 they would rather not talk with you. Ask about a Fuji and they will try to steer you to a Canon or a Nikon - I don't know why.)
Of course, your mileage may vary!
Cheers, LW

I find Aden camera to have the best prices in the city, and also willing to match anyone lower. Ordering through Henry's on eBay is the cheapest way to go. I find their in-store prices over the top on a lot of things, and they don't generally budge. Also, if you don't go to the main store downtown, you have a great chance of getting someone who knows not of which they speak.
I went in to purchase an infrared filter for my S2. I knew the filter diameter, the brand, and the filter number. The guy at the counter told me there was no such thing as an infrared filter...so I bought it through B&H.

Can somebody list a part number for the battery tray or a link. I've searched all over Henry's. Their web site is pretty lame and their search engine is the worst. A bunch of canon battery trays are listed under lens hoods. That's the last place I'd think to look. I've never seen a lens hood that needed batteries.

The SKU on Henry's site is 576FUJ073. Do a search under Digital accessories and you'll find it, price is $24.99.
The price seems high to me (I bought my last one for $14.99 at Downtown) See my previous message - You could get this from any of the other stores I've listed. As for the BEST prices - I don't know because I don't shop that way. While I try to get a good deal, I've realized over the years that service and advice have a value and sometimes the best price is not the best deal. But that's just me.

I went through all eleven pages of digital acc and did not see it there. It should be a piece of cake now. I do agree about service and advice having a value. And with that being said I think you deserve the extra 5 bucks. I don't have a good camera store locally so mail order is a necessity. Calumet has been very good to me and I rarely do price comparision. I know my sales rep (Steve Martin) will give me the best competitive price, ship something out when I call late in the day and research info when I need it or put me in touch with someone in the know. Those things have saved my neck more then once.

You can owe me the five bucks Crabby! A sales rep called Steve Martin?!? That guy must get some abuse! If you can score this from Calumet, I agree it may well be your best bet. I have bought a couple of things from them in the past and I recall the service was good. I don't do much cross border shopping anymore because it's rarely worth it from a money standpoint and nearly everything I want is available up here. I have to wonder why battery trays are hard to find in the US and easy up here. What'up wit dat?

Seems I am right in the middle of it all being here in Winnipeg
-Steve Martin at Calumet is who I deal with as well. Good guy. Ask for him! no idea how wild and crazy he is, but he knows his stuff. I just wish the exchange didn't kill or I would order more from Calument
-Bought stuff from Henry's online and yes they have good prices. Drop by there on my trips to TO and yes the blow hards at the counters remind me of the days when I worked in a camera shop! :-) Sometimes I think these guys need less rhetoric and more time shooting.
-Vistek.<sigh> I always go there on my trips to TO, almost as pilgrimage, in hopes of one day having a decent pro shop and rental source here in Wpg ( I ain't holding my breathe) and in the end I always walk out feeling like everyone was far to busy to help me.
2 years ago when I NEEDED a Kodak 760 for a catalog, I basically left voice mail with their digital department saying "Take my money PLEASE" This was for $10,000. They never called back. They give Toronto a bad name with that snooty attitude. No word on if they have exported it to the Calgary location. The irony is I have a TON of Speedotron gear and Vistek is the ONLY speedo dealer in the country. I am forced to deal with them.
In some ways it really SUCKS shopping for photo gear here in Canada, eh?

The really big camera stores in Toronto have a bit (OK, a major) of an attitude, however, I find dealing with them online a more pleasant experience. Dowtown camera (on Queen Street) is where I go if I need to buy something in person... they seem more people willing to "help" (with little or no attitude) than the other stores.
As for Vistek, I've given up on them. I went with $CA 3,000.00 cash in hand 2 months ago to buy an S2 from them and everyone was too busy (including one guy surfing the internet) to take my money, so I bought it from elsewhere.
Oh well....

I feel for you Ian, despite my misgivings about buying supplies and gear in Toronto, I know it's the best place to do so in Canada. I couldn't imagine being without a good rental shop - I just don't need to own every single piece of equipment anymore. I guess if I were in Winnipeg, I'd be using a lot of mail order places myself and just doing without in many cases. Stores all have their own flavour but Vistek is an odd shop. The photo candystore - some days a wonderful place and other days just plain awful. Sometimes the service sucks and some of the staff are heavy on "I coulda bin a shooter" attitude. When I bought my Olympus E10, I was spending around 4K for it and accessories. I couldn't get through to anyone there who wanted my money. I finally bought it from Downtown Camera, and indeed, when it came time to spend another 6K for a S2, accessories and lenses, that's where I returned to. However, Vistek is the only place for a lot of product (Speedo, LightPhase, Sinar, etc). They do have a load of stock, so they are important. Over the years I have spent a lot of money there - but not so much any more. The next time you are in Toronto, drop into Headshots. While they are heavily into rentals, they do have a small store and a great helpful staff, they are geared to the pro market.
