I guess not much is out in the heat as I only had about 15 shots today!

These were shot using the expodisc for white balance setting in the beginning. The colors look dead on to me on my monitors. The brown background in the shot with the finches is a hillside that was green about a month ago.

Colors look spot on here too. Did you get the expodisc to fit the 300? I've read where if you get one larger you can use it for smaller lens too by just holding it in front. This would be my cheapness side coming out. :)

I hear you Dave!

As for the Expodisc, I have a 50mm f1.8 on the camera just about all the time, so I use it to set the WB by holding a 72mm Expodisc in front of it. Then I put the 300 on. In a perfect world I would use the 300 to set the WB but I don't have the $1000 or whatever an Expodisc that big would cost :)

I should try the ED vs the built in sensor to see the difference one of these days.

Here's some shots from today. Same combo, expodisc and Bibble.

All excellent shots IMO, but that Kestrel or Sparrow Hawk is a standout shot!! You don't want to see mine :o Been trying...and trying...I got him/her with the 50-500, but he doesn't stay put for a pod. I'll get'em yet!

I am interested to see the difference between the CD and the built in sensor too. Hope it comes close to these...it would save me $$ :D

Rich - a very nice series. Isn't it great when the white balance is 'right on'! I've been shooting more RAW, so I'm using the ExpoDisc less as I find it so easy to correct WB in the conversion (I use C1). When shooting JPGs, I hate trying to correct WB in post-processing, so I'll use the ExpoDisc (when I remember :) )
Your pictures are 'clean'/clear - well done!
Too hot to take pictures .... On one of my trips to Arizona, I picked up a T-Shirt that showed a couple of skeletons in lounge chairs with the caption 'But it is a dry heat'! :) 120 degrees is HOT, with or without the humidity!

Thanx again guys!

Dave- keep shootin'! Have you found your 'sweet spots' on that 50-500? That is an American Kestrel. With the Bush administration in, I think I MUST put the 'American' in there. :) One of these days I'll test the two (Expodisc vs onboard WB) against each other.

Bill, as you pointed out in another thread, it's just plain hot everywhere! At least it's not 116 up here. Just feels like it. We did get a couple drops of rain yesterday, maybe our monsoons are starting? PLEASE!!!!

Very nice Rich, I've got the expodisk might help if I took the darn thing out of the camera bag and tried it :o

Yeah Melody, mine didn't do me much good until I put it in front of the camera!

I just did some tests before going to work with the expodisc. For grins I tried setting the WB with the expodisc, expodisc + overexposed by 1 stop, preset with the onboard WB sensor, and then just auto.

From what I saw the auto did okay, but the ED was dead on. As it should be as it costs extra :)

I'll post them here. They aren't anything too interesting, and the smokey/humid air made the sky a bit more blue than gray as you may expect. I uploaded them in this order- 'auto WB', 'preset by ED', 'preset by ED+!' and 'preset by built in'. Hope they display in that order.

Mind you this was just a quick test, but the color of the landscape rock really shows the ED shots are the best.
