I took up the challenge of capturing a fast moving bird. This is the best of about 20 shots - I won't bother posting the others, they're just pictures of clear blue sky, chimneys, treetops and even a close-up of the afternoon sun (I can still see a faint outline of it when I close my eyes!)

hehe, reminds me of when I had a go at photographing ferraris racing down the runway as part of the local airshow. Got a lovely shot of the track, but nary a ferrari in sight :D

Sean, try 800mm lens, you'll see the chimneys/buildings/trees better
What camera your shooting?
For this kind of shoot D2x works best (at 5/8 fps).

There you go Sean just splash out £3500 and you'll get a whole bird , easy :D
I got dozens of shots like that , half a tail , bit of beak etc , i think your a brave guy showing that pic.
It proves that not every shot we take is perfect , i started a thread months back in ''challenge'' called IF ONLY about this very subject , no one had the guts to post any bad shots (and i say that in jokey way) .
But seriously this kind of thing is one reason i AM buying the D2X for , but the D70 in burst mode works almost as well and is a hell of a lot cheaper , by co-incidence i'm selling mine

Hey half a bird is better than no bird! My dad always said "if you don't shoot, you won't get anything". :)
Believe me the D2x doesn't get'em all either!! I have frames like this and some with blue skies too! ;) Keep shooting, you're digital...closely quoting Igor.
