View Full Version : duplicate file names

I use two S2's... One in the studio and one outside. The studio camera has the most shots taken. There's no way that both cameras have the same file numbers but I frequently have problems where I have taken shots in the studio and also outside and when I download to the same folder, I get a message that the filenames are the same. I can't overwrite because they are different poses.
Haven't pinned it down as to whether this happens using the same card in both cameras or whether on two separate cards as I do both every day depending on the sessions booked.
Any comments helpful.
Thanks,

I assume that you've set both cameras on continuous numbering? Otherwise each will keep resetting their numbers based on whatever the highest number is on the CF card you insert.
I've never run into a situation where the continuous numbers are anything but continuous, and my workflow would catch it even if I didn't accidentally duplicate because the EXIF date and time would be out of order relative to the number of the picture.

Both cameras are on continueous numbering. I will keep track of the cards I use. Could it be caused by using the same card in two different cameras, then putting another card in one camera and then putting that card in the other camera?
Does that make sense?

That was my thought, although it's not supposed to work that way for continuous numbering. Since I have only one back, there's never an issue. I would also wonder if you ever shoot onto a card, remove it, and then move it to another camera to shoot on it without erasing. Obviously, if the old files on a card aren't removed, they are never overwritten at the camera level, so they stay on the card and are then reprocessed when you pull the card back in for dumping. Are you either erasing or formatting the card on inserting it for the first time after having pulled off the images?

Typically, I start with fresh cards each day. I have 6 - 1 gb cards.
I format them in the camera.
I do one of several things.
(1) I shoot the card and then take it to the card reader.
(2) I shoot the card indoors and take it outside with the senior and finish shooting it in the other camera.
(3) I shoot one card in the studio and another card in the outdoor camera and download both cards to the same folder.
I need to make notes and see which pattern is giving me trouble.
