Not so much a challenge, more of an opportunity to get people's views of the Summer Solstice (or Winter Solstice if you're in the Southern Hemisphere). My plan is to get some pictures of the sunset on June 21st - if others do the same, we can see what it looks like in different parts of the world.
Anyone up for it?

I'll see what I can do. The wife and I are supposed to be out and about tomorrow night anyway. Summer soltice here is supposed to be like 11:30pm tonight though. I was thinking about taking a shot of the moon around then. :)

Ok, so it's 'humble pie' time. I suggested this sunset thing, went out this afternoon and planned my 'shooting location', got all my kit ready and..............nothing. Despite the recent warm weather and the reputation that this area has for pretty sunsets, it just didn't happen. The sun didn't dip gracefully behind the trees and light the sky up in shades of purple and orange. No, it just fizzled out like a flashlight with dying batteries - I didn't even bother getting my camera out of the car.
Never mind, there's a whole year to plan the next one. And to keep in the spirit of things, here's a sunset I made earlier :)

I'm on holiday in Florida - and it looks like I brought the good old UK weather with me! Every evening so far there has been a downpour! At least the days are hot and sunny .....
I'm going out to Kennedy on Friday to watch a rocket launch and hopefully get some good pics.

Hey wait you two from the lovely Isles! What about a summer solstice celebration? No all nighters?!?
*sigh* Modern world tricks me sometimes. I do remember thinking as a child I wanted to move to Texas because I thought that's where all the cowboys went. I liked the ladies' dresses and wanted one for myself.
It was clear here, but I missed it. Getting ready to move stuff in 100 degree heat today made me lazy!

The sun sets on June 21 behind the new 7 World Trade Center building in lower Manhattan. Woolworth Building is seen to the right. A lucky photographer (besides me) records the scene.

We were kinda bummed last night. Couldn't find a decent place to take the sunset as the sun is so far north now. I think I caught the moment of how we felt.

Both good shots - glad that someone got a real sunset and didn't have to resort to 3D rendering software like I did :)
The irony of it is that I went out to the local shop this evening, and was met by the most glorious sunset I've seen in ages. Did I have my camera with me? nope....

Just after sunset, about 9:10 P.M., NYC celebrated the solstice with a fireworks show over the Brooklyn Bridge.

wow! That's quite a shot over the Brooklyn Bridge. Other cool ones here as well.
Tonight's the full moon though and its supposed to be a rare one here in Hawaii, very low and large looking. I'll post some images tomorrow if I get anything good.
