Hi everybody,
I use the continuouse setting for my counter in my S3. My last shot was "DSCF1482.jpg" in a folder called "100_Fuji".
Well, but I have inserted in my S3 a CF that I have not used since my S2. In this old CF was a folder called "101_Fuji". Shoting with this CF in my S3, the photos are named "DSCF0001, DSCF0002, ... in the 101_Fuji folder. The last shot is DSCF0041"
I have re-initialized this old CF. I have re-inserted the usual CF of the S3 where is still the folder 100_Fuji with the last shot "DSCF1482". But, in this CF, the S3 had created a new folder "101_Fuji" and records my new shots in this folder from "DSCF0042", and so one...
So now :
I don't know more exactly how many shots I have taken with the S3 and, if I want to sold it, the counter indicates a number of shot higher than the reality.
Does anyone tell me if it is a solution to erease this false counter and refound the real number of shot (DSCF1482) in a "100_Fuji" folder ?
thanks,

Thanks Theo, but the most important problem is not the number indicated by the name of the shot (DSCF0042, or DSCF1478) but the name of the folder used by the camera to record the photos : 101_Fuji. Because this name "101" says that the camera had taken more than 10,000 shots and that is FALSE !
Is it a way to erease this false memory of the camera ? How to return in a 100_Fuji folder ? How to recreate it ?
If I clear handly the 101_Fuji folder in the old or in the new card, and I create manually a 100_Fuji folder, now the camera don't record in the 100_Fuji folder but create automatically a 101_Fuji folder in any cards ! ! !

Getting the file number back on the S2 is easy. The folder number, I've never cared about. I've gone from 100-105 in a week and only took 10 pictures. I know how many times my original S2 rolled over the DSCFxxxx number, that's good enough for me. You can point anyone to this site and show them that people have problems with the folder numbering. Not only that, you can just rename the next file and tell them it's only got 500 shots on it instead of 9000 and they'd never be able to tell.
I would try this. Change your numbering to renew, from the PC, rename the 101 folder to 100, then put it in the card. Take a shot. Pop it back in the PC, if it's 100 still, you're fine. If it's 101 still, then you're stuck.
To get the file number back to where you want it, when you're done with the folder numbering above, reset the counting to countinous, rename the picture you took above (must be the largest numbered picture in the file and should be the only one in the folder) to the last picture number you want. Take another picture. It should be the next one after the rename. Format the card. Take another pic and it should be correct still.
I've done the file renumbering this way a few times and it's worked for me. I've had to since I've accidentally popped cards in from other S2's and ended up with the numbers from the other camera.

Thanks Swampy for this advises. I'll try your method to re-number the pics at the last number of my S3 (1482). I think that will work.
But, you seems to tell me that I'm not the first one to have problems with the folder name/number (101_Fuji).
OK, if it is no solution for that, I'll resolve only the name/number of shots. But, it's now important to know that the name of the folder don't indicate the real number of shot done by the camera. That will be important for the purchase or selling of used cameras.

Swampy,
I've tryed your method. It's OK for the name/number of the pictures of each of my three cards : DSCF1508, 1509 and 1510. But all that is in a "101_Fuji" folder.
So, a part of my problem is resolved : I can continue to count my photos with any of my CF.
Thanks and Cheers
