some guys have been using this today I haven't found the link on adobe, so I'm searching here's what I've got so far:

Yes, it opens Nikon D2X NEF files!

Quoting Thomas Knoll, in the Camera Raw Adobe Forum:

The http pages are not updated yet, but ftp links appear to be live:

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/cameraraw/win/3.x/DNG_Camera_Raw_3_1.zip

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/cameraraw/mac/3.x/DNG_Camera_Raw_3_1.dmg

To install ACR 3.1, replace the existing Camera Raw plug-in at the following location:

Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS2/File Formats/…

Win: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS2\File Formats\…

Doesn't work for me!
Neither D2X nor D70 nor SLR/n RAW's, nothing opens in PS CS :(

Does it work for anybody?

Just did it Igor works fine :)

It didn't at first as I installed it in 7 instead of CS2 :troutsmac well I did just wake up

Oh wait that could be it in a thread here I recall for the dx2 you need cs2 and the 3.1 for it work, do you have cs2?

It works on mine too. Are you sure you put it in the right directory? With CS2, it goes in the Common Files directory and not the usual place.

I do notice that it is apparently not picking up WB correctly.

hmmm OK Tom I'll take your word for it, it looks fairly close on mine when I review the different ones.

I got one of those expodisc gizmos I think maybe I'll try it out today and see how it works :)

That Camera Raw update is only for CS2. It will not work on CS. The latest Camera Raw for CS is from January 05 and is version 2.4.0.115.

If you are unsure of your version, you can drill down to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins\File Formats\ then right click on the "Camera Raw.8bi" file and it will tell you the version at the top.

Next question will be whether Adobe will make the converter for CS1 to support the D2x or whether they'll MAKE you upgrade if you want to work with D2x files.

Interesting enough, when I removed my Camera Raw file all together, I was able to open the D2x raw files like Igor, using Nikon's plugin that probably installed itself when I installed Nikon's NikonView Software. Although, as Igor said, all you can do is Rotate, EV and WB adjustment.

What I like about the CS converter besides all the extra stuff is that you can set the DPI/PPI to whatever you want and it doesn't seem to hurt the picture where if you do it in PS, it seems to interpolate and degrade it.

Ok just to further confuse the issue here's more info:

Knoll also points out that users of the current version of Photoshop CS and ACR 2.4 will have an option for opening D2X and 350D/Rebel XT raw files. Knoll says that version 3.1 of the free Adobe DNG Converter (which we presume will be available concurrent with ACR 3.1) will be able to convert D2X and 350D/Rebel XT raw files to DNG format, and you will then be able to open and convert them to RGB images with ACR 2.4 running in Photoshop CS.

Forgot and left that portion out. Yes, you can download the new converter from the link above and it will contain a stand alone version of the DNG converter. You can run this regardless of what version of PS you have and convert the D2x or other files to the DNG format which can be opened under CS1's latest version of the RAW Converter.

What a pain though.

What I saw on mine was that a shot that converted with Nikon Capture correctly "as shot" was significantly off in ACR. When I clicked a WB point it was fine, but the "as shot" didn't seem to pick up in ACR.

For those interested:

D2x Raw file: 20.4mb
D2x DNG'ed file: 9.1mb
D2x DNG'ed +embed: 25.4mb

S2 Raw file: 13.2mb
S2 DNG'ed file: 5.3mb
S2 DNG'ed +embed: 14.1mb

1D Raw file: 6.4mb
1D DNG'ed file: 5.1mb
1D DNG'ed +embed: 11.3mb

1Ds Raw file: 12.6mb
1Ds DNG'ed file: 10.5mb
1Ds DNG'ed +embed: 22.8mb

So, you have the starting raw file size, then the DNG file size after the conversion (doesn't overwrite or kill your original raw file of course), then you have the raw file after the DNG conversion with the actual raw file embedded into the DNG file.

As you can see, the Canon files, there's not much change, besides the format . The file size remains close to the original as they're compressing thier raw's slightly already.

Interesting that the DNG + embedded RAW file doesn't add up either, but is smaller than the raw and DNG seperate files.

Well let's just confuse the blonde first thing in the morning  in PS my raw files from the d2x are showing in the 11.1 - 11.7mb range not 20 is this just because I have raw compression turned on in my camera? Guess it really doesn't matter I have CS2 and won't be doing it that way anyhow.
