Thanks for posting this Melody...good reading! With all the chat about the D2x, for my purposes of wildlife shooting (not close range in a zoo or park) I have made the correct choice :righton:

Its a pretty detailed report, I'm still interested.
Would anyone here with a D2x be willing to provide me a NEF converted to unprocessed 16 bit TIF (preferably with Nikon Capture) for a large print experiment? I'll send you a free 24"x36" print.
The catch is that I don't have an ftp account where you could upload the image and you can't send me a 70+MB file by email. So the lucky supplier  would have to be able to upload the image to your web site or FTP account where I could download it. Either that or send me a CD that I'd reimburse you for.
Any takers???

Darn Mike I would like to help out, but I don't have any salvageable shots they are all oof. I have the server and bandwidth...I could even set you up :) , but I think you would need something thats in focus. If you don't get anyone before mine gets back let me know!
BTW, what you printing with? That the HP?

It got there at 8:42am today, have to wait until tomorrow I guess, seems to take a day to get into their 'puters, eh? Didn't hold too much promise for delivery back to me by this weekend tho... :( I sent it off Monday, but I can't get outgoing overnight delivery from here best is next day. I'm not that remote

thanx for the link, I printed the whole thing and read it all.
Seems the WB issue is the only thing he felt was a real problem, and now that may be fixed with the latest ACR..

I liked the way he equated the encryption to a tax. Pay the price of admission Adobe (and others) and you can massage our files. Interesting.

Hula did anyone take you up on the print offer? I may be able to oblige. Any particular subject matter?

Dave, sorry for the delay, I didn't see your post. Thanks for the offer. So far a few people have said they'll provide images from D2x but you never know. Keep an eye on the thread I started, "Free 24x36 Print". If I fail to get a file from someone I'll ask again there. And yes, I'm printing with the HP DJ130 printer. S2 files look pretty good at max size (23x35) I'm wondering if the extra bit depth and quality of D2x and 1DsM2 would make a difference in printed quality.
Ian, Thanks for the offer. Looks like I have several volunteers already. Much as I'd like, I can't offer free prints to all but am considering selling prints to forum members at approximately half retail for those interested. I'm thinking $25 for a 23.63" x 35". (23.63" is max image width on my printer)

I think you will see a great big difference. Let us know how you find them.
the process of shooting with the camera is unbelievably way more fun too!
I just came back from 4 days of shooting the arctic, the camera was a pure joy to use. I haven't been this excited by a camera since I bought a F4.

I assume you're speaking about the D2x aren't you Ian? Good to hear, I was getting quite comfortable with it until I sent it back for OOF problems. It just feels good and all the buttons in the right places, you don't need both hands and a knee to make changes. :)
I too would like to see your pics, don't need to work with them like Mike, just see how the D2x works with them. Being from Alaska and needing a trip back soon I sort of miss a little tundra, sunsets, mountains, etc.

As Thom says "Fortunately, Nikon delivered something very close to perfect. "
I couldn't agree more.
The only problem I have is with teh WT2 that is not as I want it. It cannot connet at 802.11g in both PTP and FTP modes only in PTP.
Who designed that ??!!!
