I bought the camera (Usede)last week and received it Monday. I read all the manuals and reviews. Played with the camera and shot a couple of frames. Downloaded the files, compared the file sizes (Did not see the actual images) and just this morning, when I was getting ready for the real test, I realized that the files were dark purple and out of focus. I then took a couple of additional shots with another lens and when I viewed them in the screen, they looked dark purple and blurry. Since then I have tried cards, leses and batteries and the camera shoost dark purple picture that look out of focus. Is this the comon "BLACK SCREEN" issue that puts so many of thee cameras in repair? I was thinking of returning the camera since I now know the actual condition of it, and it seems that it was a problem camera. The vendor who supplied the camera is well known and has a good reputation for Customer Service.
What do you all think? Is this camera worth repairing.( Will it be a permanent reliable fix??) or should I get a refund and buy another back up camera like a D100?

Gil,
This sure dosen't sound good. If it were me, it would be returned. Sorry, that you can't see what the S2 can produce, some of the most beautiful colors that a DSLR can produce. What kind of photography? If portraits (like myself) try and find another S2 (or get a new S3!)..If action, a good number of people here have had great success with the D70. Good luck!

Hi Gil,
Be sure to read this thread (http://fmount.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11112) and this one (http://fmount.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11789) for your purple frames. And of course the Problem (http://fmount.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17) thread.
Fuji has been owning up to these dead CCDs and have been repairing them and giving a 6 month warranty on these repairs to my understanding.
Mine just went out on the 28 April so back it goes. The only problem you might encounter is not being the original owner...don't know how that will play out. I believe if I were you, I would contact The vendor who supplied the camera is well known and has a good reputation for Customer Service. and see just how good their service is! Truly they should at least help you in returning it to Fuji for a replacement CCD...after all it wouldn't be any money out of their pocket.
Let us know how it goes...

I want to give credit to KEH camera. They offered to send the camera to Fuji and have it repaired at their cost, which may be free. The heart behind them is that they offered to do it at what ever cost. They even offered to send me a replacement, another S2 (As soon as they get on in stock) or a camera of the same value like a D100 or a D70. I opted for the repair. I really want to keep my S2 and be part of all the great stories here.
On top of that, they offered to pay/reimburse for shipping.
The camera went out today. I will be out of town for a week, but I feel great about the service at KEH.
I just wanted to brag about my camera dealer!

I think he did the right thing too. But, he doesn't have to wait to come back here for his S2 to come back. This place covers basically all DSLR's now (moreso Nikon based though). :)

Guys!
I am hooked on this forum. I have a D1, D100, D1X and a D70. Also a coolpix 990 which has ben seriously abused. I still love my D1! I love how inovatve it was/is as the filmless F5! I must admit, the D1X still has the crown in my house, but the S2 may be up to the challenge.
S2 in the repair shop will not keep me away from here. There is much good reading here!
I sold my complete Pentax 645N with 2 zoom lenses and a super wide and flash, to get the S2, 50mmm1.4 lens and the SB800.I also had some cash extra for a DVd burnern for my G3 mac...life is good.
