I have an image shot with the S2, dimensions as follows :
1800 x 1234 @ 70 res. (25" x 17.5") - 1.1 MB
I need to re-size it up to 62" x 42" @ 240 res. ideally with no deterioration.
Is this possible, and if so would someone please explain in an easy-to understand manner ?!
Thanks in advance !

No can do, at least not with out deterioration. You are enlarging the image over 8x. That means for every real pixel your image has, the computer has to manufacture 8. That's quite a stretch even by Hollywood standards. To make things even worse, your file is a highly compressed jpeg.
I'd say your best bet is to make a high quality glossy 8x10 print and have it scanned with a drum scanner to the size you need.
Or try a print at the native resolution of your file at the size you need. For a 62x42 it comes out to 29 Pixel Per Inch.

You coould try to 5% incremental enlargements but I wouldn't hold out much hope without a lot of PS work

I've 'upsampled', but nothing of that magnatude. Here's a few links that may give you some guidance.
Good luck,

Mike's suggestion of a drum scan of a smaller print is the only thing that will work in this situation and give a satisfactory result. Don't even mess with upsampling, your base image is just too small.
