I had an Olympus pocket digi given to me last week and it happened to have a 32mb pic card inside the box. I tried it with the S3 to see just how much quicker than a comp flash it really was...............! Hell, it took 18 secs to write a Raw file!

I thought they were suppose to be lightening fast!

Maybe the promise of speed for these cards made more sense when they were first introduced - CF cards have got faster since then.
I'm sure there will be a scientific comparison of XD v. CF v. SM cards somewhere on the net, don't write off the format on the basis of your quick test Steve.

Steve,

I found it wrote twice as fast to a XD card than to the CF card and is actually faster than the D70! My XD card was a Fuji 256mb

makes me wonder if all xd cards are not created equal. I've got a couple 512s and they are faster than cf cards in the s3.

Hi Jim,

Yes I saw your little test. Seriously though it took all of 18 secs to write an S3 Raw file. My old IBM microdrive was a good 5 secs quicker! I'm keen to buy one when they make something bigger than 512mb but can't see the point after trying the 32mb I already have :(
