this is making me mad... This photo is not upsdaie down, it's a shot of a flooded parking lot- see the curb at the top of photo. Now for the fun part- what are the lines that run horizontaly, and are tan in color- the do not exist in any other photo taken before or since.
I am guessing they are a refelction, but that doesn't make much sense either-

any ideas????

Gosh, that's interesting. From the look of them, they seem to be developing out of the sun position; they're not geometric with the CCD. My guess is that they may be a wierd form of light interference that's developed out of the combination of reflection from small wavelets and maybe the anti-alias mask on the CCD. Looks optical not camera, in other words.

In the upper right corner I can see some white lines at the street. Water isn't a perfect mirror. Maybe lines at the street ?

I'm with Tom on this, they do seem to be optical because they follow the line of perspective, getting closer together and smaller as they recede. So that would eliminate any kind of electronic issue or interference. I does suggest that there is something under the water on the pavement as Wilm says, but something's not right about that either. As Tom says it could be a filter or mask issue. That it wasn't repeated is the wonder. Did anything change (lens, focal length, aperature etc) between the shots before, this one and the one after it? That is assuming they were all of the same subject.

These lines are subspace distortions that cause a harmonic ripple through the Space-Time Continuum. These ripples can "lens" the light and cause the colors to merge into white bands. Kind of like a prism in reverse. These things happen so fast that they are usually never noticed but every now and then a camera will freeze them in a picture. You should contact your local university's physics department. They will probably really be interested in your picture.

I took about ten or so shots , on a tripod, both vert and horizontal, tried a few different shutter/aperature combinations, and all the shots in this series have the same lines-

didn't happen on any other pics before or since- just these

Wayne- these were shot in Maryland, not New mexico...

Which makes them even more interesting because it means that the rip in the space/time continuum has widened and now engulfs Maryland.

You need to wrap your head in aluminum foil and hang pie tins on little strings from the gutters of your house/condo/apartment. The foil acts as a reflector to the ripples of time that you caught splashing on your sensor.

With that all said I think it might be your sensor. I hope not, but me thinks so. Try shooting in the same light, etc and you'll probably (I hope not) see the same lines.

I really don't think it''s the sensor-
I've shot thousands of pictures so far, and have never seen the lines before or since...I'm more inclined towards the alien abduction theory-

Actually, this was shot on a D2x, so I may just send the image to Nikon since I have stumped the panel of experts...

Well, hell, that settles it then. The time distortion has just now caught up the new technology in the D2X and is causing something akin to a jet breaking the sound barrier....you think it's okay and then BOOM! The wave hits you and everythings falls apart. Yep. Time Wave Distortion (TWD) is your problem. You'll need to go back to last week and look ahead to this problem and duck when the wave comes. I had to do it just yesterday...or was that tomorrow...

I just pulled the Deloren out of the garage, waiting for parts for my flux capacitor...

I believe those are some kind lines on the street. The water only looks to be about 3 inches deep or so. The curb is red and the sign reads "No Parking *** Fire". The yellow sign on the right says "High Water". Another reads "Buses No Left Turns". I'm guessing that those lines are part of the a cross walk ro some kind of zone, but it's all chained off up to the orange cone. It's safe to say nothing is wrong with your camera.

Just my 2 cents worth.

and see what's there without the water?
